Does the Eminent Technology 2.5 arm work well with the Transcriptors Reference turntable?
Mijo, you tend to argue using only your own carefully selected facts and beliefs as support. I am not qualified to comment on the ET tonearm because I’ve never owned one, although every time I’ve heard it, it seemed excellent. I am only focusing o...
Does the Eminent Technology 2.5 arm work well with the Transcriptors Reference turntable?
As Mijo well knows there is a valid school of thought that supports benefits associated with tonearms having a high effective mass in the horizontal plane Because extreme low bass frequencies are encoded in horizontal motion of the stylus and beca...

Did you read where I wrote “for the purist”? What does Ortofon sell?  Answer: Cartridges!!!  And the more of them you buy, the better it is for Ortofon.  You came here looking to buy a particular turntable which happens to have the limitation tha...
What is the best tonearm for a SOTA Nova turntable?
Holmz, it’s actually voltage based amplification from cartridge to speakers, if you exclude the aforementioned low internal resistance, LOMC cartridges. Although even that’s an oversimplification.
What is the best tonearm for a SOTA Nova turntable?
There are many very good tonearms to be had for way less than your quoted cost of the VPI. Possibly even a used Triplanar or Reed. Certainly a used Dynavector, FR, Victor, or Technics, for examples.
Turntables
Morsegist, you do not need two tonearms or a mono cartridge to enjoy mono LPs. You only need a mono switch on your preamplifier. Most (not all) mono cartridges are derived from stereo designs by internal bridging of the L and R channels, which can...
Balance control?
It is unwise to judge channel balance based on “perfect” centering of a vocalist.  You have no idea what the sound engineer was after when he set up the recording session or what sort of mixing was done.  Very often, the vocalist appears to be sta...
What is the “World’s Best Cartridge”?
I agree.
What is the best tonearm for a SOTA Nova turntable?
Re Mijostyn’s advice on purchasing a current driven phono stage:  (1) That’s a fine idea if you plan to limit yourself to LOMC cartridges with internal resistance preferably less than 12 to 15 ohms, the lower the better, and (2) my own experience ...
Turntables
If you have a sturdy and nonresonant shelf or base for it, Rega P10 is just fine. Go for it.

Thanks for agreeing with me, T9, but my point was not that the TT is most important; it was that flippant generalizations, like “differences between turntables…” are not helpful and may be misleading. And of course you can’t leave out the tonearm.
Direct Drive
“Differences between turntables often comes down to the cartridge.”  The same cartridge will sound different in a different tonearm on a different turntable.  The same turntable will sound different with a different tonearm and cartridge.  These v...

Clear thinker, At least keep your prejudices vis a vis DD turntables straight.  The phenomenon you describe and object to is not at all analogous to “cogging”. Cogging is an issue for all iron core motors; look it up on Youtube. Arguably the corel...
What is the “World’s Best Cartridge”?
An “order of magnitude “ is generally taken to describe a 10-fold difference, so the energy storage advantage of digital over analog is thousands of orders of magnitude, but for the purpose of this thread, who gives a s**t?
Yamaha GT 2000 with 40 pound copper platter.
So you’re saying that vintage knob is wrong, because all I am doing and ever have done is to quote what is available on vintage knob?. I do realize that vintage knob is often incorrect. Which is why I prefaced my remark by stating the case “if you...
