Moving Iron Adventures
Most all DD turntables use AC motors. Typically the motor itself is encased in a metal that shields. The platter itself usually enhances shielding. There is no hum problem. I’ve had 5 different DD turntables in my home system, used them with a wid...

Moving iron cartridges are not particularly prone to inducing hum, compared to other types. Decca cartridges are notorious for generating hum in concert with nearby TT motors. This is due to their atypical grounding scheme.
What is the “World’s Best Cartridge”?
I thought we’d agreed not to judge a cartridge by its individual parts list (aluminum cantilever). Anyway, I never before heard of Suzuka or Top Wing, so thanks, Dover. Stanton and Pickering marketed LOMM cartridges many decades ago. There’s nothi...
What is the “World’s Best Cartridge”?
Raul, I read the Suzuka review. In one sentence, I got the impression these are Low Output Moving Magnets. How else to account for the statement that the stylus is user replaceable? But elsewhere the reviewer states he set capacitance at 300 ohms,...
One turntable with two arms, or two turntables with one each - which would you prefer?
I am not in anyway meaning to denigrate Panzerholz, but the prior discussion centered in many cases on "hardness" not just of Panzerholz but of other materials mentioned. And I wondered why. Seems to me that hardness is concomitant with the necess...

Autocorrect made when one of its usual blunders.  In the phrase "...the space between the Mylar and the static where arcing was occurring...", the word "static" should be replaced by the word "stator".  ESL enthusiasts would have figured that out.

Small point: Sound Lab panels are a single large sheet of Mylar that is sandwiched between a pair of egg crate grill-like hard plastic  dividers, resulting in small rectangular divisions of the Mylar that are variously sized to spread out their re...

Why do we seem to think “hardness” is the most important criterion for a material used to build a plinth?
Ultrasonic record cleaners
Who among us has first cleaned an LP in a conventional RCM, listened to it, and then cleaned the same LP again, in a good US machine, and then listened to it again?  I have done the experiment with a few LPs that seemed to resist conventional RCM ...
Ultrasonic record cleaners
If you are cleaning used LPs of indeterminate history, be advised that some LPs just don't get any better even with a good cleaning, which the VPI HW16 is capable of, if used correctly (I don't know what is in your cleaning solution, for example)....
Top Class Audio Art in HK opinions?
They’ve been around for many years, if that is a valid criterion for integrity. I don’t recall any complaints on any of the various audiophile discussion groups.
Comparing Grace F9 to Empire EDR9 cartridge
Cables? phono gain? tonearm?
Comparing Grace F9 to Empire EDR9 cartridge
I’ve got two Benz Gliders, sitting in a drawer in their boxes. I also own two Grace Ruby cartridges. The Ruby is essentially an F9 with a Ruby cantilever. Both the F9 and the Ruby came with elliptical styli. I don’t know whether there is anything ...
What is the “World’s Best Cartridge”?
Bdp, I owned a Decca London back in the 90s and your synopsis is a good one. Especially comparing it at its best to a horn loudspeaker.

Have you questioned the calibration of your digital attenuators?
