Used 804 N or S vs New CM10 S2?
Keep in mind I haven't heard the CM10 so what follows is a bit of a guess. Considering:- the new power amp is a Rotel RB1090, which is better than the RB1080 I had yet probably not in a different league,- the RB1080 plus 804S sounded harsh to me (...
Best computer for usb hi fi source
You have gotten great replies.I'd like to add "best" is in the eye of the beholder. For best sound, a server such a Doggiebrowser mentioned (which I use) or a modded Mac Mini. For really best sound you will need to spend a fair amount of time twea...
Will the SOtM USB card work with Windows Server?
Try asking this at computeraudiophile.com or at the PCaudio forum in the JPlay website. I know people there use this combo.FWIW, I use a PPA v2 USB card with WS2012 without issues. I built my server 15 months ago and don't even remember if I neede...
Used 804 N or S vs New CM10 S2?
What will you use to drive these?FWIW, I used to have the older CM4 powered by Rotel RB1080 (200W). I upgraded to 804S and suddendly the treble was brittle. It was the more revealing speaker now allowing me to hear the amp's limitations. I upgrade...
SET shortlist to drive tweeters in active system
George,I'll look into the Pass Aleph. Hadn't thought about it. I confess I like tubes though. But I'la look into user feedback.DIY is certainly an alternative for me. But I'm very hesitant to go with a cheap alternative I never heard of.BTW, Charl...
SET shortlist to drive tweeters in active system
Charles,After looking into the suggested brands they all seem to be beyond my budget. I'm part way through the "greatest bargain in SET amps these day" thread and the Dynamo 34SE has me intrigued. How do you think it would do in light of my McInto...
SET shortlist to drive tweeters in active system
Initially I said 4k, but in reality that would be the utmost I could do. I would be much happier if they were 2k. Too many things changing in my system now. Used would work, provided I can have the manufacturer or service turn it to 220V.
SET shortlist to drive tweeters in active system
Hello Charles1dad.Thanks for the input. I was actually hoping you would chime in.I like the sound of tubes for the midrange and treble. Hyper extension is not a need for me - and anyway can't hear close to 20kHz. Imaging, air and spaciousness are ...
SET shortlist to drive tweeters in active system
Hew,I didn't wanted to go there to avoid complicating the thread as my setup is rather unusual. My only source is a very optimized PC running, among other things, Acourate for digital room correction. It can also perform digital crossovers, linear...
SET shortlist to drive tweeters in active system
Fair enough.Maybe I was jumping to conclusions. My 4-way would be divided as follows:20 to 80 Hz by active subs80 to 600 Hz by two 10" midbass woofers per side, driven by class-D amp.600 to 2500 Hz by a midrange. Was assuming my MC275 for this. Mos...

I'm surprised I'm not getting any reply. Maybe I asked a stupid question? If so, would appreciate learning how it was so. Wouldn't be the first time, though :-)
The sound out of jplay 6 is astonishing
Had you tried previous versions and this one blowed you away more than earlier ones?I ask because I tried it in my system and couldn't hear a big difference, despite me wanting to. Might try it again. For the record, my system is a very much optimi...
6922 tube selection
I'm not as savvy as others here about tubes, but also have tube pre and amp and also had trouble swallowing a whole system upgrade cost-wise. The option that worked well for me was to identify which tubes had the highest impact on sound on my equi...
Equitech with digital only?
Opinions about Equitech vs Balanced Power Technologies for digital and for analog? I've seen very good comments about both.
Stillpoints ERS cloth for EMI/RFI
I've used mu metal in a couple of DIY projects with good results. I also covered the transformer inside my Lamm LL2 preamp and cannot hear a difference. Maybe it is shielded well enough already. About a year ago I wanted to tackle EMI/RFI inside m...
