Are "vintage" DAC's worthwhile, or is this a tech that does not age well
My ancient Wadia 15 (redbook only) outperforms my Bryston BDP-1 even when it's playing hi-res!Endlessly chasing detail, detail, detail is a mistake! A friend proudly using an uber expensive dCS agrees that my old Wadia is better but only on redboo...
Anyone Successfully Go from Floor Standers to Bookshelf Monitors w/ Subs?
@OP, lots of recommendations for this speaker or that speaker but to directly address your concerns : " I am concerned about the ability to fill the room" and "We don't want to take a backward step but can live with a sideways step"@spenav mention...
Most rooms don’t need acoustical treatment.
What amazes me with these treads on acoustics on this forum is the dogma handed out.The endless bragging that: "I have a rug and some drapes and my system sounds fine" just means you have never heard a properly treated room.Stating that: "I use DS...
Help my analog sound as good as my streaming
@invalid, sound waves do not know or care what generated them and will behave according to the volume of the room and the furnishings. The big problem with untreated rooms is the sound takes too long to decay and this jumble of reflections causes ...
Help my analog sound as good as my streaming
I should have also mentioned that once you have a very good TT and arm then upgrading the cartridge would now make sense and you will be able to hear what different ones bring to the party.Room acoustics play a very big part and must be considered...
Help my analog sound as good as my streaming
@coys21, you mention a limited budget, perhaps instead of spreading the cash between vinyl and digital just choose one and run with that. If you choose vinyl then digital can always be added later, or the other way round. At a recent audio show I n...
Help me tame my out of control bass
OP, ignore the comment from @mijostyn that 'bass traps don't work' This is blatantly wrong. Bass traps most definitely work but the 5" thick panels GIK supplied are not proper bass traps, they form broad-band absorbers and are very useful. They a...
Some DACs I am Considering-Any thoughts?
@chorus, I am considering 2 DACs, one on your list the Audio Mirror SE and one not seen mentioned on this thread, the Mojo Audio Mystique V3.  There are excellent reviews on both DACs but would like to hear from anyone who has done a direct com...
Disappointment with Pass Labs - I'm looking for something else
OP, you have not mentioned your budget, the size of your room or if you have added any acoustic treatment. Perhaps start another thread explaining what amps you have and ask for speaker recommendations.Regarding amps, Underwood Audio USA has the a...
Who else is using old cables/interconnects, and is happy?
I forgot to mention my star cable, an ancient bright purple Madrigal digital cable. Cheap to buy but good luck finding one. I have heard many but nothing has bettered it yet and not really trying anymore.I got this from a friend with a Wadia/Mark ...
The guru on fuses:
@georgelofi : you state, "He's probably the dumbest of all the fusers here, as he "tries to justify" his stupidity".Good one georgie boy, advocating for displaying stupidity with reckless abandon. What you need to strive for is 'wreck-less' regardi...
The guru on fuses:
@georgelofi,  Wow, interesting business model you have there conning your customers. Do you sleep well at night?  We all know you can't hear the difference so why oh why do you need to waste our time with your insulting negativity.
Who else is using old cables/interconnects, and is happy?
I have made all my cables except for one interconnect which is about 14 years old, the Van den Hul Orchid interconnect. I later swapped out the RCA connectors for top of the range Furutech and noticed a small but important improvement.Outside diam...
Acoustic treatment question: do you agree with Dennis Foley that $46k to $65k is required?
@ shalommorgan, thanks. If you have tamed those wobbly waves down to 30Hz then your room should sound as good as it looks.I will send you a PM shortly.
Acoustic treatment question: do you agree with Dennis Foley that $46k to $65k is required?
@ shalommorgan, Very impressive, looks smart and purposeful. Did you measure the room performance as you were adding treatment? @ pureaudio, wow, I am appalled at the good money you spent and without the reward. I sympathise.Re: Denis Fooley, wha...
