hearing tests - where and how?
Kal, not sure where you got that - the subject has been researched for decades by many different people in many different countries, along with much other brain research. A Google search should yield more info than anyone would ever really care to...
Favorite Pianists
Classical - Alfred Brendel, Alicia deLarrocha, of people still concertizing currently, Garrick Ohlsson. Jazz - Oscar Peterson, Bill Evans.
hearing tests - where and how?
Very good point, Orpheus. Also, research has proven that the brain can indeed perceive frequencies above those that the ear can hear, which is fascinating. Don't tell that to designers of digital processors, though, the vast majority of whom (at l...
What amp do use to drive your Klipsch Cornwall I,
I use a PrimaLuna Dialouge 2 with my Cornwalls, works great!
altec model 19 , how to upgrade the speaker ?
Hi - sorry I can't answer your question, but I will suggest that you try the High-Efficiency forum over on the audio asylum.
hearing tests - where and how?
Agree with Shadorne, and I would also add that most audiologists should do a test that covers that.
CD vs. Vinyl
Mrtennis, a live broadcast over the radio is still compressed quite a bit, so it would not be close compared to the master tape.
The CD player is dead.......
Pettyoffficer - I merely stated my opinion. Not trying to start any kind of "anti-democracy." If you knew me, you would realize how far off base your comments are about me, especially the militaristic ones. You are certainly entitled to your opini...
The CD player is dead.......
For me, the vast majority of this thread is Much Ado About Nothing. I agree with Tvad's original post here - "computer audio" is going to a one-box format, i.e. the music server. This is most certainly the wave of the future, and I for one certain...
Have you tried matching a stereo to your hearing?
Interesting posts. Another factor that has not been mentioned is that science has proven that the brain registers audio signals beyond what the ear can hear, so I am pretty dubious about tuning a system to your personal hearing, as our perceptions...
CD vs. Vinyl
LOL Shadorne, nice post. Mapman, you say one thing I find a bit strange - "When digital is done well, transients and microdynamics are more challenging for amps to reproduce accurately. When all this works well though the overall dynamics of the r...
Which hdtv would you recommend and why?
Don't think that plasmas are going away entirely, only the sizes below 50" are being discontinued eventually as far as I have heard. To me there was no comparison between plasma and LCD/LED - plasmas have much better blacks, which is very importan...
When does analog compete with digital?
I agree with those who say your question is backwards. Yes, digital can be very clear and extremely detailed. However, this is at great expense in other areas that many of us consider much more important, such as more correct reproduction of instr...
Which hdtv would you recommend and why?
I am very happy with my Panasonic 50" plasma, have had it a year and a half now. I would also highly recommend that you have it professionally calibrated after the 200 hour break-in, this made a huge difference, and now I know how to mess with it ...
Classics you can't have too many recordings of
Mozart, Mahler, Strauss, Wagner (can you tell I am a horn player?), Bartok, Stravinsky, Gesualdo, Bruckner, Bach, Beethoven, to name 10 off the top of my head, though not necessarily in the above order.
