Best beer There are far too many different styles of beer that are too different to select just one overall. Here are some faves: If you have never tried it, try Fuller's ESB. It is one of the smoothest beers in the world. This is obviously my pick for an E...
Recording/Engineering Practices Your suspicion is almost certainly correct, IMO, though they wouldn't intentionally play with phase, as Alan says. There are almost always going to be strange sounding things going on with modern digital recording and all of it's techniques such a...
RFI noise/ FM overlay Any way to eliminate it? Another suggestion would be to make sure you have everything plugged into a surge protector. Most good ones include a filter for RF noise. Monster makes a very affordable product, for instance.
beethoven piano concerto If you want LP, there is a great box set of live performances of all 5 concertos played by Alfred Brendel and the Chicago Symphony, conducted by James Levine. Fantastic performances!
Extremely well recorded jazz double bass? cymbals? I second Frogman's recommendation. I have never understood why some folks use recordings they have never heard before to evaluate a system or components thereof.
Who listens only to vinyl? I would say my listening is about 75% to vinyl, 25% to digital. There is now a ton of music that is only available digitally, and I also usually have to listen to digital when I am listening to my own orchestra, as that is how we are recorded.
Compact Disc as a format I agree with Elizabeth, though I would say that burning stuff to a CD is more like copying to a cassette, so I think that CDs will end up being more like cassettes ultimately.
Do you believe in Magic? Very admirable posts, Bryon! I agree with Csmgolf that you are one of the clearest posters on these forums, and I envy this ability you have to do this. In fact, I was quite surprised to therefore read that you don't actually enjoy argument. I ass...
Record cleaning fluids I love the AIVS fluids, as do all of my audiophile friends that have tried them.
LED vs Plasma, 60" vs 65" No problems with glare on my Panasonic plasma.
LED vs Plasma, 60" vs 65" Plasma is the way to go. Far better blacks, so if you are a fan of art film in particular this is very important. Also, the motion is better, so if you are a sports fan there is no comparison even with the new LEDs. As far as energy consumption go...
Prima luna Owners - What Speakers are you using Klipsch Cornwalls. If the Quartets are too big, though, the Cornwalls definitely will be.
How much can be measured -- and how much cannot? For me, the ears must be the first guide, and are much more important than any spec or measurement. One must listen to many different types of equipment/systems and decide what one's priorities are sonically. Only then can one begin to use measure...
Forward soundstage speakers? Horns. Some smaller classic ones would be the Klipsch Heresys, and there are a few new designers making smaller floorstanding horns. At an audio show last year, I saw no fewer than five different horn exhibitors, out of only about 20 total.
Looking for a great value integrated I would look into Rega's very inexpensive integrateds, or if you want to spend a little bit more, you can't do too much better than Naim in the solid state realm. |
