WHAT TV SHOULD I GET RIGHT NOW?
Definitely the 50" Panasonic plasma. Don't know of a single person who is unhappy with one, assuming that they have had it calibrated properly after the break-in period. Fantastic color and clarity, and Panasonic has great customer service.
Primaluna Dialog Two Integrated Amp vs Cayin A-88T
Hi Erisch - yes, I did switch out the KT88's for some EL34's, and did like the sound better.
REGA RS5... any owner?
My brother has heard the RS5's with Naim amps, and enjoyed the sound.
Primaluna Dialog Two Integrated Amp vs Cayin A-88T
For the record, PrimaLuna is a Dutch company, though the product is made in China. The US distributor is Kevin Deal, who is in LA. Their customer service is excellent. I have had a Dialouge 2 for a few years now and have been very happy with it. H...
Budget Turntable suggestions
For a no fuss set-up, but with very good sound, the Rega's can't be beat. The P1 would definitely fit in that budget, and maybe even a P2 used.
Recent equipment you hated, thought overpriced
My vote would go to power conditioners and such products as well, as long as we are talking about an analog set up. They are not as harmful to a digital set up. I do run my gear through a surge protector to protect it, that's just common sense, bu...
Amps for Klipschorn speakers
You might try the PrimaLuna integrated amps - I use one with my Cornwalls, and that is a nice combo. I would not recommend a solid state amp with Klipsch speakers. The resulting sound will be very bright. Generally, the lower powered amps will sou...
Top 5 Classical recordings
Hi Eelii08 - part of the reason I picked the first five composers I did is that with the exception of Mahler, they all wrote in an extremely wide variety of genres - Mozart in particular. He mastered every musical genre in existence. I guess my po...
Top 5 Classical recordings
In answering this post, I will provide five composers to start with - picking just five compositions is absurd. My recommendations would be to start with Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, Mahler, and for something more modern, Stravinsky. Exploring multipl...
Hate this, I need an AV receiver. Help me choose
Another great brand was Harmon-Kardon, don't know if they are still making them, though. I used one for many years.
Choral Music Suggestions
Thanks, Frogman - another nice performance I have of some of his church music is called Tenebrae, with the Hilliard Ensemble on the ECM New Series label.
Choral Music Suggestions
Frogman, I agree 100%! I love the music of Gesualdo, and have been preaching about him to friends and colleagues for a long time! I do not have the Harmonia Mundi recordings, though - who are the performers? My favorite recording I have is the Boo...
Laying it on the line
I agree with the OP that many manufacturers are just building to a price point, and don't know much about sound. I also agree that cabling, etc., is a very small part of the system and nowhere near as important as all the rest of it. I think this ...
Cables ... what's up with them?
Didn't read the whole thread, but FWIW, many people in the industry (for instance Robert Harley, editor of TAS) recommend spending no more than about 5% of your total system budget on the cabling. While they can make a difference, every other part...
Retailer in Austin, TX
I would second the Whetstone Audio recommendation. I would be careful with Brian Kurtz. He is indeed a nice guy, but just be careful. I know several who had bad experiences with him, though he always blamed it on someone else. My own experience wi...
