Jazz for aficionados Hi guys - I would like your opinions on this, especially Frogman's. I don't agree with everything in it, but it is definitely food for thought. http://dyske.com/paper/778
Jazz for aficionados Hey Rok! Maybe you'll even get around to my suggestion - Aaron Copland's "What to Listen For in Music." :) Glad you are branching out!
Jazz for aficionados Acman3, unfortunately musicians ARE being replaced by computers - have you heard of the new Virtual Orchestra? Absurd? Yes. Unfortunately, it is now a reality. Let us hope most audiences will not accept it in the future, right now that remains to ...
What are your TWO favorite Symphonic Recordings? 2500 seating, huh? Pretty big, that must be a multi-purpose venue as well, I'd guess. Sad about the Green Bay symphony, but it isn't over yet. Perhaps they can still be saved, ala the San Diego Opera. Also, it is irksome to me that not just the me...
Jazz for aficionados I didn't want to be the first to say it, but Schubert is absolutely correct.
What are your TWO favorite Symphonic Recordings? The hall I play in is considered world class, especially for opera - it is a multi-purpose venue. Acoustics are good both out in the audience and on the stage for us to hear each other as well - those two things do not always go together. I can't ...
What are your TWO favorite Symphonic Recordings? @Frogman - you just listed my two favorite recordings of Shepherd on the Rock, too! @Schubert - Helseth will be soloing with my orchestra very soon. I actually have not ever heard her play yet, so I am really looking forward to it.
Jazz for aficionados Rok, several Minnesota orchestra players left to go to other positions during that very lengthy lockout they had, so they now need to be replaced, including more than one principal player, if I remember right. Certainly the principal clarinet left...
The End Of Out-Of-Print Music At least vinyl lasts longer than CDs. :)
Is it possible for a record to be too loud? Short answer is yes. There were/are many recording engineers out there who really have no idea what they were/are doing. Don't assume you have an equipment issue unless it is happening all the time on a wide variety of records.
Jazz for aficionados Rok, those Louis Armstrong Hot Five and Hot Seven albums are fantastic, I've got them on LP, pretty good copies.
Jazz for aficionados Glad to hear from you, O-10, and glad to know you are still reading, if not posting!
Apartment Drama I would agree that the bass is very probably the issue. Even what seems like a very little to you could very well be a real problem downstairs. I would consider moving to a first floor apartment.
Jazz for aficionados Rok, you are correct that Stravinsky is often murder on trumpet and horn players. It is good hard, though - we love to play it!
Jazz for aficionados I agree with everything Frogman has posted lately about Stravinsky, especially the suggestion to listen to a wide variety of his music. He was truly a musical chameleon, with the ability to write pretty much anything in any style. Mozart is really... |
