Selling here on Audiogon
I usually look at the dealer demo ads first; I prefer buying from them to just "some guy", if possible at a reasonable price. Might be a bit more expensive, but will also be covered under some kind of warranty, and will be much easier to deal wit...
Steely Dan Aja cover
@sokogear - He may very well like it the best, but likely of more importance is that the audience wants to hear that the most, being their biggest selling album. I've got that UHQR, too - awesome!
What about Dan Clark?
If you want to know about headphones, I'd suggest going to a forum like head-fi - there is not much action on this particular one compared to that....  I guess most A'gon people don't do cans, or at least talk about 'em.
Good Speakers for Rock and Roll Under 15K
I like Marten speakers from Sweden. When auditioning against Dynaudio Heritage Special and YG Tor, the Marten Oscar Duos hit me immediately as better rockin' speakers; I ended up going for the even higher model, the Parker Duo, just because the up...
Steely Dan Aja cover
... and I gotta say that all these years that always seemed somewhat flaggy red white and blue. Nice to see what it really is....
Steely Dan Aja cover
@asvjerry - ever see Woody Allen's 'What's Up, Tiger Lily'? That's kind of how that works....
Your greatest high end audio purchase!!!
That would be my MSB S-200 power amp; it's my one component I've not thought about upgrading, and I've had it for over 10 years.
It's attention, not money, we should budget
30% room might be good if you have a dedicated listening room, but I think it's a bit much for a room that serves a multitude of purposes....
Your Not-So-Obvious Best Fidelity LPs
One of the best sounding records I've ever heard is ABC's 'Lexicon of Love' and its amazing production by Trevor Horn; for me, it's right up there with 'Aja' if not even better; I'd sure like to see a UHQR double-45 of this one....
Lowest priced MC thats better than a Premium MM?
@lewm + 1 - dunno if there are many 'cheap MC's' that are on a performance level with my Clearaudio Charisma MM. Good question, though, as I'm interested in getting a headshell with an MC or MI just for a change of pace....
Speakers - Your "Safest" Choice
I recently acquired a pair of Marten Parker Duos and matching stands for about that much, and I am extremely happy with them. I auditioned them at a dealer along with speakers from YG and Dynaudio, and the Marten sound appealed to me more for rock...
Vinyl is back for good and that’s exciting
I buy LP's because I like the sound of well-mastered, well-pressed ones, but even more important to me is the 12x12 physical size of the object; some people DO care about things like being able to see the artwork and be able to read lyrics and cre...
What to ask when buying used speakers?
I would ask if they were broken in yet or were still relatively new? That way I'd know what to expect from the sound over weeks or whatever....
Preamp headphone amplifier
@soix + 1 - and even if the built-in one is not 'really bad', it would likely still be noticeably inferior to a relatively inexpensive but good separate headphone amp, so I would suggest looking into one.
Technics SL-1210G Headshells, Record Weights, and Mats
I might be mistaken, but I seem to recall that Technics tables are not designed to be used with record weights; don't know why. But I've got a 1200G and I don't use a record weight and don't feel a need for one. I do use a Clearaudio Charisma MM ...
