Best resistors for use in phono stage?
What passes through the loading resister goes to ground.  The signal going to the rest of the phono stage does not pass through this resistor.  Can it still affect the sound?  I don’t know for certain, but, I suspect that it matters, but it is not...
Best resistors for use in phono stage?
In your application, the loading resistor is acting as a voltage divider which, given its high resistance, mean that only a small portion of the signal is going through the resistor and being burned off as heat.  It is not a critical part whose qu...
Why did my amp just crash and burn ?
With solid state amps, the most common cause of problems like you reported would be accidentally shorting out the  amp by touching the two speaker lugs together.  That sort of problem will usually mean just a blown fuse.  Only a very poorly design...
What covid research can teach us about audio measurements.
Conventional measurement data does not give one ANY meaningful information about the sound of the amplifier (except, perhaps output power).  Any company reporting specifications will have an amp whose distortion and noise lie well below the suppos...
What covid research can teach us about audio measurements.
There have been a few attempts at finding new measurements that better reflect what people hear.  For example "transient intermodulation distortion" (TIM) or "slew-induced distortion" (SID) have been put out there to measure distortion caused by a...

STAIN-LESS STEEL.......DYNACO CHASSIS'S......ST-70 and MK III
Stainless might be quite expensive--it is very hard to cut and punch stainless.  I saw a beautiful linestage made by a specialty builder that was made of stainless steel.  But, when I inquired about that chassis, he said that he made a few that wa...
Top 10 vintage cassette decks
In terms of WOW factor, it is hard to beat the Nakamichi deck that does auto reverse by actually flipping the tape over instead of simply playing in the opposite direction.  The flip happens with incredible speed so it is a lot of fun to see the d...
McIntosh LB200?
It has been around before the private equity acquisition of the company.  It would also be the only current component by them that I would consider for inclusion in my system—it least it won’t screw up the sound.
