Replacing Vintage Spendors is not as easy as I thought I would be auditioning Audio Note speakers--I have never heard of anyone complaining about too much treble response with their speakers and they are quite easy to drive so they work with a wide variety of amplifiers (by the way, what amps would yo...
Audio Research Reference 6 or Mark Levinson Reference n32 Haine, I find the Reference No. 32 to be a very composed, easy to listen to linestage. But, like most things solid state, it lacks a little bit of a "spark" of liveliness or vividness that comes with really good tube linestages. It also tends to...
Difference Between DAC Types I have no idea which type of DAC topology might be better than another. I do know that NAIM dubs their reference gear with the "555" number. Their "555" CD player had a R2R DAC. Their very best server/DAC, until recently, did not "earn" their "...

Repair Shop In VA / Washington DC - Rec Please Your component, being a receiver, might be harder to service than a typical tube component. Still, three months is a really long time. I would contact the places mentioned above and describe what you have and what you want done and they might be...
Repair Shop In VA / Washington DC - Rec Please If you are into tube gear, Deja Vu Audio is THE store to visit--they only sell tube amplification (except for trade-in gear). Much of their amps, linestages, phono stages, some DACs are either built in house or by their own exclusive builders. T...
Repair Shop In VA / Washington DC - Rec Please I have not dealt with HiFi Heaven in Falls Church Virginia, but, they too have a good reputation in the area.
Repair Shop In VA / Washington DC - Rec Please One of the very best repair shops in the DC area, with a good reputation for the whole eastern part of the country is Music Technology, in Springfield Va. The head honcho, Bill Thalmann is very good with both solid state and tube gear.
External PSU shuts down the breaker This unit has a low voltage linear power supply for a solid state phono preamp/equalizer. It should not have a massive bank of capacitors that would draw enough current to trip any kind of breaker. I would not fool around with something that mig...
External PSU shuts down the breaker Perhaps it is tripping a ground fault interrupter (GFI) circuit protector in your home while the problem is not a dead short that would trip the circuit breaker at the stereo shop if it did not have GFI protection. In any case, I would not want s...
Deja Vu Audio 300B Mono Amps I think you should first e-mail Deja Vu Audio and include the photos. They might be able to offer some help on this. They have had a number of builders over the years, but, one of their current people might be able to help.I would also have the ...
The Harbeth phenomenon Good OTL's are astonishing in the way they deliver a lively, immediate and vibrant sound. But, as Jsautter mentioned, most require a speaker with a high and/or flat impedance curve because the output impedance of these amps are high (the only way...
Astoudingly good recording of Wagner's Parsifal I found it on Arkivmusic as a Halle CD (4 discs). I haven't pulled the trigger on buying it, but, I probably will buy it. The singers are not top talent, which is a bit of a problem with something as difficult to sing as most of the roles in Par...
Power Amp advice Doesn't the Parasound have toroidal power transformers? If that is the case, these tend to hum if there is DC offset coming from your power circuit. You should looking into getting a DC blocker for your AC line. These are not that expensive. |
