Has anyone seen this? A really beautiful turntable
If you have seen the video of the table, it is clear that it cannot do even the basics of delivering decent performance--the platter wobbles like crazy.  Even if this were not a concern, I don't see how it delivers any advantage at all--the arm an...
Can you put a Krell in an apartment?
In an apartment, you want speakers that sound lively and full at lower volume levels.  These types of speakers a re most likely to be high efficiency models that also don't require much power.  Even if you are already committed to some kind of low...
Turntable cost:benefit
I don't think it is at all possible to come up with a "rational" estimate of this sort for any kind of purchase.  If you have only a few albums that you are crazy about, it might make sense, to you, to get a great table.  I would spend quite a bit...
shibata or microline, pls respond ONLY if you specifically have tried both.
Whatever you choose, inspect the cartridge out of the box to make sure that the stylus is perfectly aligned to have no azimuth tilt when installed.  As mijostyn mentioned, you can change tilt slightly by raising or lowering the arm (because of the...
Highly efficient speakers to pair with my SET amp
If you can move a bit up in price, the two reasonably efficient systems that I've heard and liked are the Tekton Double Impacts and the Rethm Bhaava.  The smaller and cheaper Audio Note speakers might be in play if you can find them used, are cand...
Why do Classical CDs sound less Alive/Real/Present ?
Much of the genre is particularly difficult to get to record and sound realistic (e.g., choral music, opera, large scale orchestral).  The live setting of such music is particularly difficult to record because the venues are so quiet and the music...
Most annoying song, period.
audiozen,That was then, Yoko has refined her art considerably.  Just check this out:www.youtube.com/watch?v=FsEuKAstpOQ
Was the Snell Secret a Wide Baffle?
I agree with Montaldo that it is hard to attribute particular sonic attributes to particular design choices; I've heard plenty of exceptions to any rule.  I've heard quite a few wide baffle speakers and many of them I do like.  But, is it the wide...
Who needs a Diamond Cantilever...? 💍
About a year ago, Warren Jarrett, on the Steve Hoffman forum, proposed a group buy of stylus-cantilever combinations from Namiki.  He found out that the micro-ridge stylus/boron cantilever combination would cost $95 each, and the micro-ridge stylu...
Amps with meters ...
I don't see a need for meters, except as a built in tube biasing aid.  My linestage has a meter on it, but it is primarily there because the builder used an ancient chassis, and without the meter, there would be a big ugly hole in the faceplate.
Which stereo amp to try under $30k
The right amplifier in a system is so specific to the particular system matching and personal taste that it is almost impossible to make meaningful recommendations except for the purpose of establishing a list of candidates.  It would not make tha...
Who needs a Diamond Cantilever...? 💍
I don't know what was meant by one-piece stylus and cantilever, but, if it really means starting with a single diamond that is then cut to form the stylus and cantilever, that diamond would have to be pretty low-grade to start with in order for th...
Why does my old CD player sound so much better than my new streamer?
I don't think DAC technology has changed much over the past 10 years, perhaps even longer.  Some of the better DACs being made today use ancient circuits and some very old chips that have been squirreled away because they sound better than modern ...
...amazed by 15+ year old interconnect...
I certainly hope that interconnects and speaker wire don't  corrode and go bad that quickly.  I plan to keep what I have.  I don't know if cable technology has advanced much over the past 15 years.  If someone offered me a pair of NBS Black Label ...
Why does my old CD player sound so much better than my new streamer?
How are you actually retrieving the music?  Are you using a streaming service or retrieving files from some storage device?  Did you rip your CDs, and if so, have you compared the rip to playback from your CD player?  I ask because I've heard plen...
