Great Plains Audio Thanks jond. I cannot find a "Shop Now" link on their main site, but, it is good to get an assurance that the other site is theirs. The bad news is that the other site lists more options than the main site, and an interesting option (the 604 wit...

Higher End DACs tomic601,I own the ND 555 streamer/DAC with the 555 PS DR power supply and a Uniti Core ripper/hd server. I like how it sounds. I use to own their 555 CD player, which I thought sounded better than their servers, but, their current top-of-the-li...
Anyone else never get tired of Billie Holiday? In terms of the artistry and raw power of the emotions she conveyed, there are few artists that compare to her. On top of that, her voice was pretty unique. The only artist with a similar voice was Marilyn Moore. Ms. Moore only recorded one alb...
Emotive sira? I also own an Epifania, although it is now on loan to a friend. The Epifania is a wonderful linestage. It is quite different from the sound of the Sira, to the extent that it seems a bit odd that the same designer/builder was involved. The Epif...
Is there a such too much power for speakers? I am more familiar with the Stradivari. I have helped with the setup of three systems using that speaker. The Elipsa looks like a slightly smaller version of the Stradivari. The Stradivari did not require high power to sound good. I don't expe...
Emotive sira? A lot of linestages have multiple outputs that are controlled by the main volume control. I used the second output to run a multichannel ambience recovery/synthesis processor that creates 4 additional channels of information to simulate a large s...
Is there a such too much power for speakers? Most of the amps I really like are low in power. This is the case with both solid state and tube gear. I particularly like low-powered tube amps. Of course, the speakers to match with such amps must be high in efficiency and must present a reas...
MC cartridge loading: still baffled A good explanation of the blank record and the similar use of the run-out section of the record can be found if the last listed video here: https://www.sound-smith.com/articles/videos This is the method now endorsed by Peter Ledermann and Frank ...
Higher End DACs You should audition a few samples of DACs and streamers to get a handle of the type of sound you favor. Pick something in the highly detailed, accurate camp, such as the Esoteric, and then something at the other end of the spectrum, like Audio No...
MC cartridge loading: still baffled lewn,The blank disc is NOT intended to simulate actual operating conditions. From experience of many manufacturers and listeners, it gives a rough approximation of what the correct setting would be when playing actual records. Like all antiskati...
The Arm/Cartridge Matching Myth All you need to actually hear the effect of the low frequency resonance is to play one of those old Shure test records that are used to find the resonant frequency of your tonearm/cartridge combination. The subsonic frequency is recorded along wi...
What Would You Do with a Sealed, 1st Press Miles Davis "Kind of Blue"? My mono "Kind of Blue" has that limp plastic inner liner as you described. What you have is an original release. If the side 2 track listing had been incorrectly inverted, that would make it an early pressing in the run before they corrected the...
Tube tester...anyone own their own? A local dealer uses the Orange to do quick screens of small signal tubes and EL84 output tubes. It is much easier to use than the TV-7 that is the main tube tester in the shop. |
