Can you put a Krell in an apartment?
Jeff,I know some of your comments are in jest, but, the idea of comparing outrageous apartment systems, with the measure being the inappropriateness of the gear seems to be the wrong approach to making a good actual choice.  The best sound is achi...
Koetsu black, lacking bass
I agree with daveyf about the basic sound character of the Kleos vs. the Koetsu Black.  Something is odd about the setup if the Black sounds more clear but lacking in bass (it could be the original setup with the Kleos was off).As to which cartrid...
Extravagant shipping charge
I suppose the cost/value issue must consider what the seller is recouping in the shipping charge.  If the seller boxed the item himself, the cost might include his labor (boxing audio equipment is quite time consuming if done correctly).  If the i...
VTA Cartridge
Yes, looking from the side, if the front surface is perpendicular to the record surface (easy to tell from the reflection of the cartridge on the record surface), you are in the ballpark.  Depending on manufacturing tolerances and the tracking for...
The Truth About Power Cords and there "Real" Price to Performance
I heard two blind power cord demonstrations, where the two cords were both of similar price, and it was fairly easy to distinguish the cords in both cases, but whether or not one was better might be system and taste specific.  In one of those bind...
The Truth About Power Cords and there "Real" Price to Performance
I've heard a few power cord demonstrations and it is really easy to hear the difference between the hardware store IEC cords and even modestly priced specialized power cords.  I've only heard a few comparisons within a brand line between expensive...
Can you put a Krell in an apartment?
I don't know about the specifics of this amp, but, something that old that cost so much back then would be astronomically higher in price in today's market.  I doubt that there have been much technological advances in amp design that this amp woul...
Can you put a Krell in an apartment?
I would not be that comfortable buying a 30-year old solid state amp.  Many of the components, like the output transistors, may be hard to replace if they go bad.  Tube gear is quite different in that most of them can be relatively easily serviced...
Full Range comparison
I've heard quite a few full range drivers used both in single driver systems and use as a wide range driver in multi-driver systems.  Used as single driver, most systems do not deliver enough low and mid-bass for the sound to be full and rich enou...
Has anyone seen this? A really beautiful turntable
Maybe the wobble has a positive effect on the sound.  Sort of like playing everything through Leslie organ speakers.
Denon DL-103 and Audio Note AN-S2 SUT problem
To absolutely clear, I understand that you run the leads from the tonearm into the primary side of the step up transformer, then the output of the step up transfer feeds into the MM input of your preamp.  Is there enough gain from this configurati...
Wait- OMG! The song is really about...?
For me, one the the creepiest songs is Sonny  Boy Williamson's:"Good Morning, Little School Girl"Look up the lyrics, they are so much worse than one can conger up in casual imagining.
Wait- OMG! The song is really about...?
Yes, the Blues are an endless source of pretty interesting references--backdoor man means the guy who leaves through the backdoor when the husband comes in through the front door; I suppose it could have another obvious meaning. . .Some other blue...
Wait- OMG! The song is really about...?
Every time I hear "Santa Baby" in a shopping mall at Christmas, I wonder if people pay any attention to lyrics.  It is sung by someone offering sex for all sorts of material things from "Santa" with each stanza ending with "hurry down my chimney t...
Best cartige for the money and why?
I don't have any specific recommendation for lower cost cartridges; I generally like the more modestly priced examples of Dynavectors that I've heard.  I have heard the ART 1000 that Chakster mentioned above.  At $5,000 or so, it is actually one o...
