Review: Brickwall PW8R15AUD AC filter
That's similar to what I found with my Brick Wall system. I made arrangements to return it, but I tried it on my projector and the image became noticeably brighter. The Porter Port I just put on the outlet made the video contrast and depth also no...
Rich sounding line conditioners?
Any experience with the PS Audio Ultimate Outlet? From what I've read most conditioners take some warmth from the system for whatever else they may add. Since the UO is stated just to condition upper end frequencies, maybe it would keep the warmth...
Rich sounding line conditioners?
Primarily I'm looking for robust surge supression (beyond just MOV's) that doesn't add its own sonic influence. Filtering would also be nice, but I'm using a Porter ported dedicated circuit that doesn't sound bad by itself.
Rich sounding line conditioners?
Ideally yes, but after getting a dramatic sound shift even from a surge protector, I'm guessing each component brings its own baggage to the party to some extent. I'll look in to the Running Spring gear.
Cary Audio Silver Oak III
Now that the speakers have had even more time to burn in, I can say that they greatly benefitted from burn in even over the first 200 hours. The midrange that was always a tad understated is now a strong point, and the bass has continued to improve...
Broke and still not happy
Most high end gear IMO isn't great for rock since it tends to emphasize the midrange, and other subtleties that are not mastered well into rock recordings. If I had it to do over again, and maybe listened a little less to classical and jazz, I'd g...
Review: Brickwall PW8R15AUD AC filter
I was using a $150 HT Monster outlet before I receive my Brick Wall unit today. I just finished listening for about half an hour to my system (all Cary HT components) with the Brick Wall plugged in.I plugged my 200 wpc Cimema 5 amp directly into t...
Review: Dakiom A103 and R103 Tweak
I have an all Cary HT system. Cary Cinema 5 amp, Cinema 6 preamp, Cinema 6 DVD player (and even Cary Silver Oak 3 loudspeakers). I figured an inexpensive tweak wouldn't help good electronics like this, but tried them out anyway. The result was imm...
Maggy MG12 over the 1.6?
The room is definitely a larger room (around 35X25). My old B&W 804's couldn't quite deliver an effortless sound in the room. The speakers will be used for both HT and 2 channel music, though I'm much more concerned with the music side. If it ...
Why Don't More People Love Audio?
Boa2, you're point about high end being in the hobbyist realm is exactly the problem. Look at how daunting and ridiculously expensive home computers were while they were still for hobbyists back in the late 70's.With hobbies, user unfriendliness a...
what is the most valuable dvd player for audio?
My Cary Audio DVD-6 is fantastic sounding on both DVD and CD. In fact it was reviewed in Sensible Sound for its ability as a CD player only and was rated a "best buy". A bit pricey at $2K list, but I've seen them on Agon for around $1200.
Amplifiers:A Keeper for Life. Do you know of one ?
My Cary Cinema 5 is a keeper. Even if the whole Home Theater thing changes radically, its also excellent with music and I'd always be able to use 4 of those 200wpc channels to bi-amp. Not that I see Home Theater as a passing fad, far from it.
Carada 120" Screen& Sony VPL-HS20
Can you tell us more about the screen? What was the gain? Was it a pulldown of fixed? Gray or white? Did you audition other screens, and if so, what attracted you to this one?
What is the best Big Screen TV?
I also saw the SXRD Sony TV at CEDIA, and there's absolutely no question that its the best Big Screen TV out there - by a comfortable margin. If you have bucks you can't do better. And I hate you.
Anthem AVM 30 vs. Parasound Halo C2
Not to complicate things, but I have the Cary Cinema 6. It sounds fantastic with movies, but even more importantly to me is that 2 channel audio sounds better than any pre/pro I've heard. One review (I think absolute sound) said it was the top sou...
