Best platter mat for Acrilic platter ?
Basis turntables, (also made with acrylic), typically don't have mats either, and AJ Conti, (Basis designer/owner), recommends against their use as well. (I tried one on my Basis 1400, and did not like it.)
Best speakers in the 3000 -5000 range
Yes, and not only that, but the speakers that Audiozen recommends will make Eric Clapton sound like the best guitar player of all time!!(Sorry, Audiozen, but I just could not resist due to your recent thread.) ;-)>Best Guitar Player thread, in ...
Preamp for Lamm M1.1 monoblocks
Hey Syntax,Actually, all of my friends that have listened to the aforementioned Lamm L2 reference preamp, believe it is "just a touch dark sounding". Notice I did not say it was "rolled off on top", as it is not that apparent unless one does a sid...
Preamp for Lamm M1.1 monoblocks
I use the Ayre K-1xe, with my Lamm M2.1 hybrid monoblocks, and I am very happy with it. Used, they are running about $3,500 or so for the line stage version. (FYI, mine has the optional phono boards, as I run mostly vinyl. The phono boards are nea...
Upgraded to Clearaudio Goldfinger Statement?
Syntax,I disagree with your assessment that the Goldfinger cartridge is "cold" sounding, via your "coldfingers" joke. (I assume you are saying that they are overly analytical, and not warm, i.e. they are cold sounding. Correct?) I've heard the Gol...
How Many Audiophiles Have Do You Know?
I've met a few audiophiles myself, usually through work though, so it is not merely by complete chance. (I tend to work with fairly affluent people, which I've found helps one find other audiophiles.) And of course I've met several audiophiles buy...
Smashing Pumpkins reissues
I have the originals, and they sound pretty good.(So unless I can get copies for a cheap price, I will probably not bother with the reissues, unless you, or someone else, gets back to me stating that they sound better than the originals.)Any idea ...
Best speakers in the 3000 -5000 range
I agree with Edorr that the original Revel Studios are a very good speaker, and a good choice in this price range. (I sold mine for $4,400, so they are in your price range.)They have a very well extended treble response, and there are front and ba...
Anyone heard Rockport Technologies Mira Grand II
I heard the Rockport Mira Grand II speakers at Audio Vision in SF, (which are for sale here on Audiogon - see link below), a few years ago. They sounded very good. They did not quite have the depth in the bass region, that the Rockport Antares hav...
Pre-amp with balanced suggestions?
I'm looking for something under $3000 used, transparency, detail, and holographic imaging are my priorities. Something that adds color is not what I want, just neutral and clean. So what might you suggest?I suggest you stretch your budget a bit an...
High end audio dealer in San Jose, CA
Bizango1, is correct that all three of those are still around. (However, Century Stereo has turned into a mostly Home Theater store unfortunately. Too bad, as I bought my first pair of audiophile speakers there about 25 years ago.)The Analog Room ...

How many dedicated lines are enough?
I have three lines also. The first for my digital equipment, (CD player, CD recorder and SACD Player). The second for my preamp and turntable. The third for my amplifiers.(That seemed to be the minimum number based upon my research at the time I had ...
Big upgrade
SHUT UP!!!!!(I don't want to hear this.)NA NA NA NA NA NA!!!!I have a 58" Plasma between my speakers that is not going anywhere for a long time. And my wife most certainly does not want to hear this!(Thankfully the plasma does sit back a few feet b...
My audiophile take on the symphony last night.
The Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium is NOT a good place to see a symphony. Much better would be the San Jose Center for Performing Arts, or better yet, Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco. On the other hand, seeing Smashing Pumpkins at the Santa Cruz...
