What to expect in a TT upgrade?
I've always wondered what one does when they are new to vinyl, but a TT setup that is initially setup by a pro, and then needs further "service" in the future. Obviously, experimentation is a start, but it seems like a very inefficient way to go. ...
What Happened to CD Clubs & Stores to Buy CDs?
Columbia House got bought by BMG, and the sites merged. I don't know how much less selection BMG has vs. earlier years - I have always used the site to "backfill" my collection, as they often have year-old "new releases" and remastered classic alb...
future of 2 channel CD sound
I agree with Michaelct - the range of quality on redbook CD is so huge that, for me, it's 99% about the way the recording / mastering is done, and 1% about the format. I think that's one of many reasons why higher-rez formats never took hold.
I need new music....
I apologize in advance if these are already known to you, but I'd throw out:Eva CassidyCowboy JunkiesDoug MacleodDidoWhen I am looking for new music, I go to allmusic.com, call up my favorite groups, and follow the hyperlinks to similar bands / ar...
Apple Lossless Encoder - Audiophile Quality?
I don't understand the paranoia around lossless formats sounding different / worse either. And, yes, drive space is cheap, but it's not free, backups take time, all disk activity takes time, and there is no cost to using a lossless format. With WA...
The "Spoiler" with "Pace Car"
Detlof - Do you have experience with the "lesser" empirical audio setups, or did you jump straight in at the top? I'd be curious, too, in a comparison between your setup and the I2S / Benchmark DAC setup. Thanks, Kirk
Who is your favorite blues guitarist
SRV, Buddy Guy, Luther Allison.
New "wav" files of "master quality ??
I'd be curious as to what the basis for being on "the threshold of passage" would be - certainly, the technology is available and has been for a long time. And I'm not sure why the legal and control issues would suddenly have changed for the better.
Brag About Your Vinyl Collection
Back in the day, I had a copy of Mr T's rap album. No idea where it went, but I'm sure it's a collector item now.
Why is the industry so lame?
I'm with you Wdrazek - I read the music sales statistics in USA Today this week. I don't get it either - it seems plain as day that things like CD transports are dead, and should be deader than dead. It amazes me that any CD player is produced tod...
life without audio dealers
Many already do experience "life without audio dealers" - it would appear that the vast majority of people on A-gon recount how they do not have access to a good dealer, either due to geographic location, or lack of quality in the dealers that do ...
life without audio dealers
I could live without B&M dealers. That said, if it was the case that B&M dealers disappeared completely, I believe that the environment would "morph" a bit, and there would be more hi-end manufacturers who would have to offer alternative m...
Replacement for MusicMatch
I don't know anything about MusicMatch, so I'm not familiar with what you had. WAV files don't store tagging information inherently, so if MM was something that ties files to metadata (tag info) in a repository that is now no longer available, you...
What Volume do you listen at?
I listen at all levels, depending on music / mood / situation. That's one of the things I like most about having a nice system - it serves so many purposes while sounding great.
How to insure shipping large speakers?
You could consider one of the smaller moving companies - maybe one that moves fine furniture or pianos. I had a pair of 125lb/each speakers shipped to me via one of these carriers - no crates, but handled with care throughout, and they arrived spo...
