Krell KAV-250a: good? vs. Bryston 4B ST at price? Two points that have been raised on the Krell. First, it is often cited that the older Krells were a bit more strident sounding than the current (or at least more recent crop), so I'm not sure I'd base my opinion of the KAV-250a on one of the olde...
Krell KAV-250a: good? vs. Bryston 4B ST at price? I use the KAV-250a to power my fronts (Dynaudio Contour 3.0) and am very pleased with it. I'd consider a brand new one for $2000 an excellent purchase. It is somewhat "Krell Lite", but in a good way IMO - you get 99% of the Krell sound, including ...
Girlfriends and wifes, how do YOU cope? I made quite a bit of progress when I asked my wife what about the purchase at hand bothered her - is it the money, the fact that she doesn't like the UPS guy showing up, the fact that it's taking up my time, etc. I think it helped her see that it...
Lexicon MC-12..Anyone with hands on experience? I own the MC-12 - the rest of the system is a Sony DVP-S7700 DVD player, Krell KAV-250 for the fronts, KAV-500 for the other channels, Dynaudio Contour 3.0 and center up front, Audience 50's for the rear.I owned the DC-1, then the MC-1 and now the...
Audiophile Changer: Cool or Hopeless Compromise? I use the Sony CDP-555ES 300-disc (now 400) changers as transports into my DAC (actually the Lexicon MC-12). I'm very satisfied with the performance, though I'm sure I'm not getting the last ounce of performance. I have a single-CD transport for w...
TIVO and Ultimate TV. Any recommendations? Both Tivo and ReplayTV have had dismal financial performance, but I don't know that either is in danger of going under. They both have technology that is in demand and I would guess they will survive, at least with respect to the service side of r...
Krell HTS, Classe SSP-50, or Lexicon MC-1 It depends on how much you use the system for movies vs. music. If your usage favors movies, the MC-1 is plain awesome, especially if you set up the 7.1 speaker configuration. The Classe has the reputation for some of the best 2-channel music supp...
My system has just received the ultimate insult I used to think that it would be the ultimate to find a woman who liked my hobbies as much as I do since I had a lot of experience finding women who actively didn't like them. I now realize that I found the perfect mate because we're VERY compatib...
What is your upgrade philosophy? I think it depends on your situation - if you have a really good idea where you want to end up and a pretty good idea what your budget over a long period of time will be, then map it out and buy the pieces one at a time as you can afford it. This ...
Oh, crap. I agree that you should find a way to get the dealer to send the TT he has in his hands now even if you have to pay him some extra. Worst case is that when you try to be reasonable with him (by paying extra instead of just asking for the upgrade) ...
What are you doing with your tax return? I'd be dreaming that I was getting a tax return...If I had one coming, I'd buy a Tact RCS 2.0 including WAF. Neglecting WAF, I'd buy the Tact and a pair of Dynaudio Confidence 5's, along with an upgraded amp. -Kirk
New Home Depot concept coming to Audio? I think you're correct about the true high-end of the market - having a mega-store sell $15K tube amps isn't probably a concept that will work. But I guess I'm wondering about a slightly different concept which would be the mass-marketing / mass-r...
Krell KAV-250a/3 or Proceed HPA3 I can't comment on the HPA3, but I'd give the thumbs up on the KAV-250a/3 - it's an excellent amp, IMO, would drive the B&W's nicely and at the used price is a great bargain. -Kirk
FPB Series - Hot Running? Itsalldark - That's interesting. It runs LESS hot than the KAV-250? That's the amp I have now, so I'm familiar with how hot it runs - definitely uncomfortably warm to the touch. I had assumed that a pure class A amp would run even hotter, but perh...
Labelling CD-Rs I label mine with a Sharpie pen - works great if you let it dry for about 15 seconds before touching it. -Kirk |
