Advice and recommendations needed for a turntable rig...
@pindac … He said he was “Looking for advice from those who have used ‘any’ turntable set up and why.” He went on to say that he was considering the Pro-ject. I have not heard the exact model he mentioned, but I have auditioned Many Pro-ject turnt...

@elliottbnewcombjr … Oh! Haha… Yes, that oval ‘table looks really cool! So, regarding the cartridge swapping: I am not one to swap cartridges once I settle on one that pleases me. Now, “comparing” cartridges to choose a winner IS a real pain! But,...

@elliottbnewcombjr … If it is the Scoutmaster you’re referring to, then yeah.. it’s just doing its job well, year after year. Sometimes I’m seduced by a pretty face, or by an exciting design philosophy, but when the time comes to go head to head, ...

@elliottbnewcombjr … Not relevant, but I have to say: Your posts are some of the most thoughtful, detailed, and helpful of anyone! I’ve been reading this forum for twenty years, and there are many super amazing contributors, but it always strikes ...

@2psyop … My condolences on the passing of your friend. What a great opportunity to inherit their record collection. To answer your post… I’ve owned and used many different turntables over the years, and every VPI I’ve spent time with have always ...
20 Years?
August 9, 2003 for me. 21 years this summer. As others have said, time sure does fly. Congrats on your longevity 💪🏼
Yes, cables do make a difference -- regardless of price...
@mahgister +++1. Perfectly stated. People really should accept the fact that other people have different priorities for their music listening experiences. There’s not an absolute “right” or “wrong”.  IMO, of course 😉

Tubed preamps and Power amps- How old is too old???
I have a ~1964 HH Scott LK-150 tube amp that I rotate into my main system periodically… it sounds amazing. I bought, and subsequently sold, several “high profile” modern/current model amps because they didn’t sound better (overall) than the Scott....
Jim Winey (Magnepan) has passed away.
It’s sad to read this. I sold Magnepans in the 80s. I’ve owned at least one pair ever since. They’re such great people up there at Magnepan. It all started with Mr. Winey. Proud MG 3.7 owner here. RIP
phono preamp to power amp
@grislybutter : As others have suggested; try your available options and decide which sounds best. My guess is that if your phono stage has enough gain to allow your system to play at an acceptable volume level, using the amp’s attenuators with yo...
Mastering legend Bernie Grundman explains why the measurement crowd has it all wrong!
@mahgister : Hello. I am interested to hear more about what you are describing. In terms of using a room that is shared between “living”, and “listening”, what are your suggestions, or methods to get closer to the music with what you call “embeddi...

What was your first record?
I appreciate this thread. Thank you to the OP. I was just wondering though, as I read all these great responses, and remember all the great albums I’ve purchased over the years… What will people who are budding music lovers “now” be reminiscing ab...
What was your first record?
The first albums I bought with my own money were The Eagles, Hotel California, & The Beatles, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (reissue, obviously, lol). 1976. I was 11.
