I bought 4 subwoofers and I'm absolutely not doing a DBA! Hah!
@iseland "Plateamp": I moved my "plate amp'' out of the sub box into a separate housing. Its still a plate amp (components mounted on a plate), just a 'plate am in a different housing'. Given the same space for the sub, I wanted that extra volume...
There is no substitute for cubic inch or in this case surface area
How does sound stage and woofer size go together? I thought that is more a characteristic of mids and highs.  I think of multiple small woofers only in the sense of how HIGH they can go. Given the same volume (moved air), the key to me is that I ...

@knotscott The NX Bravo crosses over to the tweeter at 950 Hz. That is an AWFUL lot of engergy going to the single tweeter at high listening levels.  Speaker size: Height 41.875″ (Without base) Width: 8″ Depth: 11.5″ Sensitivity: 91dB Nominal Im...

Hi/low pass: in my setup, the receiver 'cuts' the main speakers if at a selected frequency (I use 50 Hz, high pass) and sends the low frequencies (under 50 Hz, low pass) to the sub out (to sub amplifier). With small Epicure 5 currently in the rota...

@buellrider97 Interesting: " Adagio: same 6.5 -inch mid/woofers constructed from a fabric layer sandwiched between two skins of ceramic doping; same 1.8" circular ribbon tweeter with a shielded 3.5-oz high-flux, highly temperature-resistant magnet...

@knotscott Yup, that is the idea. Mulitple small low/mid (for 'moving air' for higher spl), NO big woofers (no need for very low range), no big 'box'. https://d2j6dbq0eux0bg.cloudfront.net/images/13908254/3055753434.jpg What is out there, coveri...

@yoyoyaya: "You are up against the laws of physics. You can make a small speaker play loud, but scale requires the ability to move a lot of air." Yes, that is the point of this post: what speaker (CAN be small because it does NOT HAVE TO MAKE 120 ...

@audiokinesis Interestingly, I had the mini lore for a while in my room. Actually quite nice sounding. I might 'go back' to bring it back into the mix with the big sub.
Speaker choice without need for deep bass
@gano: Like I said early, I already prooved that it sounded better (when cutting under 50Hz off the main), so that is NOT a discussion point for this posting.  With no need for large woofers to handle 20 Hz, there is no need for 3 or more way com...

@ ghdprentice: "wrong direction"? Maybe. But my testing/experience showed significant improvement in almost all relevant categories when I added the powered 18" sub (replaceing two meager 10", and then my great Velodyne DD15, now in use in the 2n...

@jbuhl Quad S4 might be cabable, but a single 5 or 6 inch low/mid driver may not cut it. The 6" in my Epicure 5 certainly don't. Hence the desire for 2x 6" low mid.

@wharfy Thank you for the suggestions. I have not listened to any of the suggested speaker brand, so will take a look.
Infinity RS 1B - How does the 'old dream speaker' compare to today's speakers?
mgattmch thanks again for the link. Watched it again. Interestingly, the "Mike from Brighton" is probably in the same Brighton that I live!
Infinity RS 1B - How does the 'old dream speaker' compare to today's speakers?
ervikingo: I heard a pair of RS-1B in a local store. Disappointing. But turns out there was all sorts of things wrong with that pair/setup. Some of the mids NOTICEABLY rattled, not sure if the crossover was used properly, etc. They were cheap, but...
Utah speaers
mark200mph: yes, I do realized more and more that I find the 'journey' more enjoyable than the 'estination'. Meaning, I like to find and try and change speakers in an effort to a) improve the overall quality and b) try and be surprised more (and s...
