World's best small speaker? "Best" in Hi-Fi implies that the product has a lot of visibility, a lot of reviews and a lot of hype. Looking at the speakers above, I know that I'm not playing in the same league with my setup. The word "best" is an invitation to be dishonest wit...
Suggest your most desired MSRP $1,500-$3,000 Stand Mount for a Shootout. I know that I’m probably advertising the OGY speakers unintentionally. I won’t mention them in this thread anymore. The reason I’m not a fan about Focal is because they are a huge international brand like B&W. So you don’t get that exclusivit...
Class D Amplification Announcement @phd Ha! You're feeding into the hype! Class A and Class AB will never be obsolete in the second-hand market. Sometimes I wonder if it's not wiser to score a Denon/Yamaha/Pioneer/Onkyo/NAD amp for $100 on the used market and pair that with suffi...
Suggest your most desired MSRP $1,500-$3,000 Stand Mount for a Shootout. @dayglow @juanmanuelfangioii Focal, like Davis Acoustics and Triangle only build their high-end speakers in France. The low end speakers are built in China. I don't have specific sources, but I watched a bunch of interviews with Davis Acoustics. D...
Suggest your most desired MSRP $1,500-$3,000 Stand Mount for a Shootout. @dayglow My experience with exclusivity is different than yours. Surely brands like Focal, B&W and Sonus Faber are built in China. Boutique brands like Tekton assemble in the US but use off-the-shelf drivers from China (probably). In France ...
Suggest your most desired MSRP $1,500-$3,000 Stand Mount for a Shootout. @dayglow Even budget speakers from big box stores don't sound alike. The Klipsch RP600M sound very different to the Q Acoustics 3030. For over 1000€, I expect my bookshelf speakers to be made in France or somewhere in Europe. The OGY are built i...
Suggest your most desired MSRP $1,500-$3,000 Stand Mount for a Shootout. I just can't shut up about my Closer Acoustics OGY. If I were nearby I would sneak them into the demo. You gotta hear them! I'm on another continent sadly.
Pearl Acoustics Sibelius vs Horning Hybrid Aristotle Speakers based on the Audax AM21LB driver are seriously good and can fill a large room with sound. This is a seriously underrated speaker, because it's really just a DIY kit. But you can buy an assembled pair from several manufacturers.
Need suggestions on efficient book shelf speakers for a Pass Labs XA3.5 I'm rocking the Closer Acoustics OGY with a 10W Tripath TA2024 amp and a REL T5x. The OGY are very efficient, very revealing and very well built. The sub provides the extra "oomph" for rock music and movies. The OGY excel at dialogue clarity. Th...
Class D Amplification Announcement @frogman Album tracks have autotune, drumbeat correction, volume compression etc... to enhance the clarity. I mean just compare demo tapes to finished albums and you’ll hear why enhancements are highly desirable. This implies that the album doesn’...
Class D Amplification Announcement My 2 cents on live performances: - Most rock performances sound like garbage. The drums and electric guitars are often too loud. The bass guitar and vocals are often too quiet. The sound is way too loud and confused near the stage. The sound impr...
Class D Amplification Announcement Hey, the little unassuming 30€ Sure Wondom Tripath amp (TA2024) turned me into a believer. I plugged my very revealing OGY speakers into my amp and, yeah, it just sounds fine. To the point where I forget about the gear and just enjoy the music. My...
The new dynamic in speaker pricing @headphonedreams I understand that a specific driver required a specific cabinet with specific dimensions. That's the basis of speaker design. I'm thinking about the problem in terms of small, medium or large cabinets with associated drivers and...
The new dynamic in speaker pricing Disclaimer: I'm a total newbie here. I understand why electronics can be very expensive from an engineering and parts cost perspective. But I just don't understand how these speakers can be so expensive. I mean I found a Hi-Fi shop in Paris wh...
Review: pop pulse class t amp 2024 Amplifier Sadly this amp is discontinued. I'm currently using a T amp right now, it sounds great with my bookshelf speakers: WONDOM AA-AS32157 Amplifier Tripath TA2024 Class D 2 x 15W / 4 Ohm (30€) But it's not a quality unit. The volume knob spins 360... |
