I need some help with power in my home!
You really should fix the route cause of the flickering lights.  A visit from an electrician isn't outrages, and could save your home, as well as fix the issue.  It could be as simple as loose wiring.  If you're remotely handy and have some basic...
Under my tower speakers -- Isoacoustics Gaia, other options?
@avanti1960 ditto.  Spike to the mass of the concrete.  Isolate from a resonant wood floor.
Interesting situation! Do we need this....
All you need is what pleases you.  There may or may not be a correlation to cost.
Connecting Sub to my preamp
I definitely want to follow what you are saying. What is your sub? What are low and high level inputs on the sub? On my current sub I don’t even have speaker inputs. That definitely narrows your setup options then.  Just use the inputs you have...
Anotherspeaker placement question (distance measurements)
There are some great calculations and theories for optimum placement available to us, but none of them address the variables that are unique to your room, so they aren't an absolute or one size fits all solution.  Use those theories and calculatio...
Connecting Sub to my preamp
My preferred method for subwoofer hookup (and best integration) is to run the sub parallel to the main speakers off the speaker outputs of the amp, or from the speaker inputs themselves to the high level inputs of the sub, as opposed to from a pre...
Speaker Restoration
Norm Abrams is out your way....too bad he retired! 😉
How long does it take a decent quality speaker to "wear out"?
It depends on the materials used....some can go on for lifetimes. Foam surrounds rot and will need to be replaced usually within 20-25 years. Some caps will also need to be replaced at 20-30 years, others will go much longer. Ferro fluid will dry ...
Vandersteen 2ci with tube amps
Have heard them with several tube amps over the years, and always thought they sounded great.  I bet Richard himself would answer that question!
Another cable question
There are lots of variables involved, every situation is different, and it’s also extremely subjective. We can offer opinions and insights on what’s worked in scenarios we’re familiar with, but you’re the only who’s really going to be able to find...
Did you ever buy too much bass?
Over powered rooms with booming muddy midbass is quite common. IMHO, a subwoofer is best when used literally as intended....to augment the lower octave(s) and pickup where the main woofer’s output is weak  A sub sounds best to me when it’s not fea...
Cable advice
The manufacturers have incentive to suggest that all cables be the same.  Since each set has a different purpose and often different impedances in play, you could be very likely get best sound with different cables.
What does "balanced triodes" refer to as related to vacuum tubes?
@mulveling - Very well said!
Tekton 6-10 Subwoofers: The Journey Starts Now!
@bouncehit  Yes, I was motivated by my recollections of the incredibly fast and realistic bass from my IRS Beta towers! I do think there is something about a vertical stack of subs that makes the bass sound more natural or “real”. BHBH Possibl...
New SL1210GR enroute. Need cart recommendations
It’s very subjective and system dependent, but I’ve found the Nagaoka MP500 to be superb.....nude fine line profile on a boron cantilever. CDJapan offers the best pricing I’ve seen....currently $606. What speakers are you using?
