Yamaha NS1000M Help, Advice, PLEASE Thanks again everyone. I found a nice pair of 24K gold plated brass pins at Radio Shack, and used them to terminate a pair of Audioquest cables. I can't believe how good these speakers are!! I would love to see John Atkinson @ Stereophile compare ...
Yamaha NS1000M Help, Advice, PLEASE Great stories guys. These things really sing. I keep the tweeter and mid-range pots in the neutral position, and I don't find the treble so much "hot" or "bright" as much as I do "accurate". The detail is simply amazing; very much like a good elec...
Yamaha NS1000M Help, Advice, PLEASE Vjay00: No need to quibble over 30 year-old speakers, and I'm sure you're right, but looks like the price went up dramatically by '81. According to the sticker on the back of my pair, they were made on 10/21/81. According to the receipt (dated 3/2...
Yamaha NS1000M Help, Advice, PLEASE More great advice!! Vjay00 you must have gotten your Yammies half-price; the retail in 1981 was $2,100 per pair. My seller still had the original receipt, and that price is posted online otherwise. Anyhow, I'm going to use the "doorskin" approach ...
Yamaha NS1000M Help, Advice, PLEASE You guys are the best! Many thanks. I'm going to start on the "doorskins" next weekend. I'm not too worried b/c the cabinets are not mint; they have a few blemishes already and a few small chips. If anyone thinks I would be MUCH better off leaving...
Yamaha NS1000M Help, Advice, PLEASE Yeah, if you like black ash or piano black, they're nice. I don't, but I'm reluctant to re-finish them. Anyone have any idea what they're worth?
Yamaha NS1000M Help, Advice, PLEASE Metralla: Great response; thank you! I'll look for the slender pins. Now that you mention it, I have seen those before, and wondered what in the world they were for. I would love to know how the "Yammies" stack up against more modern high-end loud...
Glowmaster Zyxt interconnects....Audioquest??? Thanks Rcrerar. We have lost all of our high-end stores here in Winston-Salem, so its Best Buy or the internet. My friend with the Glowmasters is 5 hours away, so a swap isn't feasible. I'll hunt for the Kimber Hero and Harmonic Technology online,...
HDCD music suggestions??? Great suggestion re: Dave Brubeck's "Time Out" in HDCD; unbelievable audio. Absolutely superb audiophile quality, and extra so given that it was originally recorded in 1969!! The HDCD re-mastering is other-worldly!!
HDCD music suggestions??? I'm going to give King Crimson a try, since that seems very popular. Have all the Cars on HDCD and love them. I'm not familiar with Dave Carter or Tracy Grammar, but I'll give them a try also. Any others???
Forte Audio Threshold Model 3 or Odyssey Stratos Well, the verdict is in. I am shocked, but confident, to say the Odyssey is superior to the Forte (Threshold) in every way. 0ne caveat: It seems I was lucky, because when I received my Odyssey Stratos (whick I bought used online), I actually recei...
Forte Audio Threshold Model 3 or Odyssey Stratos Tvad: According to posts left by others, Klaus has actually told potential buyers that his products would not be an improvement in some instances. Given that he didn't stand to benefit from this sale, I give his opinion some creedence. My purpose ...
Forte Audio Threshold Model 3 or Odyssey Stratos Talked to Klaus Bunge at Odyssey Audio today, and he seems to think the Stratos will be a noticible step up. Klaus is known for his honesty and frankness, so I'm looking forward to hooking it up. He offers a 120,000 uf cap upgrade that most folks ...
Forte Audio Threshold Model 3 or Odyssey Stratos Elizabeth: Yep, that is another possibility. I hope I didn't waste $550.00, but then again I can always sell the one I like least. My thought was that the caps in my Forte are pretty old now, and the thing gets so hot I guessed maybe they were dry...
Install IEC socket ruin Undertow thanks for the advice. Just a detail, but I think the IEC "socket" is nonetheless a "male" connection, because it has prongs, and thus the phalic reference to males. The cord has the holes, so...well, you figure it out. Thanks. -David |
