In the red; insufficient power Bombaywalla, you obviously have too much time on your hands.
In the red; insufficient power Measured the power at the outlet with a multi-meter. 108.5 v. Is this voltage low enough to degrade the sound or cause long-term damage to my components? Many thanks!
Best type of stylus cleaner?? Some of you may have noticed, but I accidentally posted two threads with the same question. I didn't think the first one posted, so I wrote another one. Anywho, the concensus is clearly the Mr Clean "Magic Eraser" and the Zerodust. Compulsive as I...
Help with stylus cleaning Thanks guys! Looks like the Magic Eraser is the trick! Just to be obsessive, I'll probably follow Cmalak's lead and get the Zerodust a little later, and use them in tandem. I'll be perusing my local supermarket for Mr. Clean today!
Newly into vinyl; On the money, Tubeo!! Swapped out the DL-80 for an almost new Ortophon Samba MC, and the extraneous noise is gone!! What a great cartridge, the Samba. Loving the vinyl! Thanks.
Newly into vinyl; Tubeo and Buconero: Genius!! Swapped the ancient DL-80 for a new Ortophon Samba MC cartridge & the noise is gone!! Oh sure, as Jwong points out, there is always the occasional pop & crack, but nothing like I was experiencing. This one need...
Newly into vinyl; Thanks Tubeo. Makes sense, as this cartridge has been boxed up for 25 years w/o use. I hope the Ortofon helps I'll keep you posted.
Newly into vinyl; ...OK, Schipo, so what do you suggest? Or, what's your point?
Any info on Denon DL-80 MC cartridge?? Thanks for the info! I have not heard the DL-160 cartridge, but the DL-80 sounds great. I figure they must be the same or very similar, as I cannot see Denon shorting the UK market. Any more info out there?
Technics SL-1200 Mk II; opinions?? The Ortofon cartridge is a Pro S. I think it is more of a "DJ" cartridge; any other thoughts?
Albert Von Schweikert VR-4 Thanks guys. I jumped on them, and will give you a report once I get them in my listening room!
Seasoned ears only Weseixas, Albert's VR-4 not an icon?? Where you been man? What else could you buy in 1999 for under 5K that could cover 20khz down to a true rock-solid and FLAT 20hz? No listener fatigue, all hand-made in San Francisco; the only knock on those thi...
Albert Von Schweikert VR-4 Thanks Jig! Appreciate your thoughts. I can't think of a better sound for the price either.
Compressed vs. "Remastered" CDs Very informative folks. I plumbed by CD collection again and the ear agrees with you Gtfour45 & Mlsstl. Some of my "remastered" CDs are clearly superior to the early 80's CD releases, and also superior to the original vinyl (sorry analogists)....
Jazz vocals recommendations please Wow, great responses!! I've tried Hope Waits, Tierney Sutton and re-familiarized myself with Rickie Lee Jones. First of all I'd like to STRONGLY recommend the Hope Waits CD. FANTASTIC sound quality, absolutely no digital "compression"; sounds like... |
