Gryphon vs. McIntosh I bought a Gryphon Diablo some years back after auditioning as many integrateds as I could around the same price point. I scribbled some notes on the product here. The Diablo, unlike the McIntosh MA7000 is a neutral product. What you feed it with a...
Class A to XX Watts Over the years of owning various classes of amplifiers I have come to realize that excellence in amplifier power supply design is far more important than cross over distortion.
Power Cord brands mixing. "Your Opinions" 01-05-12: MapmanIf it sounds good it is good. Yes - and stands a chance of getting better with a consistent cable loom.
Which Cables Are of Most Importance? Power Cords by far.
Nordost Vishnu or Shunyata Copperhead Power Cord 12-19-11: KennybWhat improved bass more than anything in my system was swapping the Nordost Vishnu used at the wall with a single Nordost Brahma. The first power cord really sets the tone for what will follow. But, I imagine this might not be as e...
Audio research vsi-60 power concerns I agree with Brf. If you are a fan of Pink Floyd ,Radiohead and harder rock music there is a good bet you like to turn the wick up and for that more power would be recommended.
MOSFET's vs Bipolar's I have often read that Mosfets are often the choice of transistor amp designers who mean to emulate certain tube virtues.... Hmm.One can also read that fuzziness, softened transients, smoothness/warmth and a small degree of thickening are also hal...
Cary slp-05 tubes rumor or fact? Dtc,The tubes in the Cary newsletter are CV181-Z Shuguang Treasure tubes. I asked. BTW, the SLP-05 in the photo was privately owned and the owner had to modify the chassis to fit the tubes.
Cary slp-05 tubes rumor or fact? Hi Dtc,Referring to tube positions as outlined the SLP-05 manual, Tubes 3 and 6 are the Balanced Input Buffer Tubes. These are in the signal path for any balanced input so the preamp was probably being used single-ended in the photo or at least wi...
Can NOLA's "Boxer" compete with big floorstanders? I have owned the Totem Hawks. It is a good speaker but bass shy. I now use Nola's Contenders which take everything the Nola Boxer does and adds an extra dose of bass. However, the selection of an appropriate speaker is interdependent on your amplif...
Cary slp-05 tubes rumor or fact? Hi John,Perchance did you see Cary's latest newsletter? Looks to me that they replaced stock Cary tubes in the SLP-05 for the Rocky Mountains show. I am asking them what they used.SEE HERE If you find something that truly does depth, resolution an...
Cary slp-05 tubes rumor or fact? What type of sound are you looking for John?I have tried quite a few different 6SN7 tubes in my SLP-05 (but admittedly not the Black Treasures). While changing the tone and character of the music the different tubes almost without fail saw a loss ...
Best Integrated, period. So Audiozen, if it is all about the S/N performance what do you think of the Devialet D-Premier? It cites a 130dB SNR and that my friend is without filters (unweighted).
Best Integrated, period. When deciding on a integrated amp for purchase, the most critical thing to look for are the noise level's. If the amp and preamp in the integrated have S/N levels below 100 db's than you will wind up with a noisy product So in your opinion the VA...
Cambridge Audio 840C Hi Bavarian,I tried both the Shiva and Vishnu with my 840C. The Vishnu was far better. In comparison with the Shiva it added some meat to the bones of the music. I agree that the Shiva whilst revealing is also thin. |
