What is the average dealer mark up?
There really is not much markup for the dealer for new cars (used cars there is usually a LOT of markup).  New car dealerships make their money with add on services, financing, the trade in, mostly peripheral endeavors.
What is the average dealer mark up?
Do not confuse mark up with profit!  From that mark up all overhead has to be paid BEFORE a profit can be realized.  Even if the retailer is strictly online, there are significant expenses that have to be paid first before the profit kicks in.   A...
Nuforce STA200
TOO MUCH GAIN. Even with my McCormack passive preamp I can't turn my volume knob past the 10 o'clock position without leaving the room holding my ears.  There is no need for a preamp. All you need is a attenuator between your source and the amp.
Help! Finding a matching preamp to a amp Nuforce STA200
The NuForce has TOO MUCH GAIN.  Even with my McCormack passive preamp with my normal listening I only turn it up to 8 o'clock. If I want to ROCK OUT, I may turn it up to 10 o'clock.  They need to knock out about 10 dB gain out of this amp.

Guest suddenly takes it upon herself to move my speakers
I find it rude whenever ANYONE moves ANYTHING in my house, let alone my speakers.  I would have probably told her to leave.
The “They are here” vs “You are there” sound topic
1. You are there is when the recording environment is reproduced (or the Illusion thereof).   2. They are here is when the recording is very dry and you hear nothing but the instruments and voices as if they were in your living room. Only the livi...
Help me understand John Coltrane .... seriously.
Hey I don't get Rap "music", it doesn't bother me in the least.  If you do not like bop or post bop jazz, so what?   It does not make any sense to some people. Others can recognize the structure in the improvising.  They play the notes in the chor...
Guttenberg's Cornwall IV Review -- I'm in trouble
I currently own Forte I and Forte II each with Crites crossovers and Ti tweeters.  I actually prefer the Forte I as the Forte II is a tad too bright in the midrange.  I bought and sold Forte III because they were even BRIGHTER in the midrange.    ...
CD sound quality: original pressings vs regular remaster vs MFSL, etc
I find one cannot generalize on whether an original, a remaster or a audiophile version of a particular title is the best . I CAN generalize that when the mastering is brickwalled, avoid it like the plague. Sometimes the remasters are simply compr...
Eh hem!...Subwoofers... What do ya know?
I am quite fond of my ENTEC SW-1.

Electron Kinetics Eagle 2A
New Klipsch Conwalls (IV)
Have not heard the IV but I owned the Cornwall III and I could NOT find a way to like them.  The cabinet resonances obliterated detail in the midrange that I just could not live with.  My Forte IIs also do this but to a much lesser extent.  I did ...
3D imaging
I have always preferred having the speaker facing straight forward. I do take careful measurements that they are the same distance from the back wall and that I sit in exactly the midpoint between the two speakers.  Yes, this makes for a VERY smal...
Has anyone seen this? A really beautiful turntable
Gives the music a lot of "air".
