Audio advancement - why? Atmasphere - People often treat enhancement of even harmonics as a virtue (warm sound). I don't want my gear to enhance anything (if possible).
Audio advancement - why? "If we listen to SS amps long enough humans will evolve to prefer odd harmonics"I must be evolving really fast since I don't like enhanced even harmonics already.
Why do digital cables sound different? Rja - Cable itself does not have jitter. It creates jitter by reflecting fast transitions on impedance boundaries or allows slower transitions to be contaminated by less than perfect shielding. It is impossible to test it without standard ambient ...
Audio advancement - why? Atmasphere - As far as I know class D amps enhance a little bit even harmonics (being slightly tube-like) and not the odd ones. It depends also on output configuration - from what I've heard full bridge amps (Icepower) sound more like very good tu...
Is too much power in an amp really a problem? Blindjim - watts cost money, you're absolutely right. 100W amp is better than 200W because sound level is about the same and for the same money one can get much better 100W than 200W amp. Power in class D is cheap but not everybody likes the sound.
Why do digital cables sound different? 10 out of 10 on spoiled milk test ain't bad - I got 6/10 on the milk and 7/10 on rotten eggs.
Why do digital cables sound different? Rja - AFAIK jitter is the only difference between digital cables. I don't know of anything else that can affect the sound. Jitter can be measured but many factors can change it - like level of electrical noise around, amount of system noise etc.On...
110 ohm and 75 ohm Digital as i nterconnects Practical results might be different but digital cables make very bad analog interconnects. There are many reasons for that. Quality of the copper is poor - often silver plated since signal at high frequency (that coax is designed for)travels only...
Benchmark DAC1 Pre - anybody heard a mod? Richlane - Thank you. It sounds very clear on my system with stock power cable but exact location of notes/instruments is a little fuzzy. I will try conditioner and/or different cables.
Why do digital cables sound different? Lightminer - If DAC reclocks like Benchmark (asynchronous upsampling) then quality of the cable is not of importance. Benchmark tested it with thousand feet of CAT5 network cable and it did not show any audible effect. The reason for that is few H...
Benchmark DAC1 Pre - anybody heard a mod? Cerrot - what changed from power cable on Benchmark alone? I'm planning to put power conditioner (Furman 20PFi) and very short power cable (Belden 83803) to Benchmark.
Why do digital cables sound different? RjaQuestion has been answered many times. Digital cables introduce jitter. Jitter creates sidebands at very small level not harmonically related to root frequency. It is basically noise in time domain. Noise is reducing resolution, imaging, clarit...
Is too much power in an amp really a problem? Blindjim - I'm sure there are preamps that won't drive well low input impedance (like 10k) of the power amp but it should be rather sound quality than its level. Assuming high output impedance - let say 1k and input impedance of 10k it will divide...
Is too much power in an amp really a problem? Blindjim - I have similar problem. My 100W/8 ohm amp is driven by the Benchmark DAC1 used as line stage (volume control). Benchmark allows to adjust gain (jumpers inside) in 10dB steps but for some reason, I can't explain, it affects the sound. Th...
Is too much power in an amp really a problem? Macrojack - strange coincidence, I just finished cooking shiitaki mushrooms with beans in sesame oil with ginger and toasted sesame seeds. Can you make it here in next 5-10 min. I will wait. |
