Ungrounded power cord: Will I die?
One could go technical with requirements (double insulation, clearances, leakage currents etc), but why? Take Herman's sound advice "If it came with a three prong plug then safety standards dictate it should be there"Logical and simple. You can pl...
Ungrounded power cord: Will I die?
"Typical stereo electronics will (probably) not kill you if somehow a short develops to ground."It is not short to ground but short to case, that we worry about and we (probably) don't want to be killed."The real exception is tubed electronics, an...
Biwire oval 9's, single Zen Satori - surprised
Fz1jmp,Shotguns are optimized for low and high frequencies (not identical) and marked accordingly. I had to install spades and discovered that wires inside are exactly the same. I doubt that there is any other difference.Be careful if you terminat...
Biwire oval 9's, single Zen Satori - surprised
I have Satori Shotguns and like them a lot. Nice combination of detailed upper midrange and slightly pronounced lower midrange (where my class D amp sounded a little thin). I've never heard Oval 9s but read many reviews. They suppose to be more ba...
Digital XLR vs. Analog XLR - Balanced Cables
Small correction to my previous post - signal will travel 2x1.5m=3m in 15ns (not 30ns) just clearing about half of typical 25-30ns transition (where threshold is).
Digital XLR vs. Analog XLR - Balanced Cables
Renato13 - It is system thing. XLR protect from induced noise by using twisted pair and differential signal of much higher amplitude but at the same time might slow down transition if drivers have limited slew rate because they swing higher voltag...
amarra or pure music..?
Wilsynet - It is possible that processing of standard CD will change sound but Airport Express is limited to 16/44.1
amarra or pure music..?
Bbopman - The only thing that can change sound, if digital file is the same, is jitter (it was verified by Stereophile that Airport Express transmission is bit-perfect).Music stored on the hard drive has not timing. Music is transferred to AE comp...
Do you buy Insurance for Stereo Equipment?
Theo - that makes sense. Thanks.
Tom Waits Bad?
Unsound, That was really funny. Another funny interview and one of my favorite Tom Waits songs:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3FVp2ipKEJw&feature=related
Do you buy Insurance for Stereo Equipment?
I've tried to, but my agent told me they don't have such special coverage, meaning it is always covered. I asked him if $100k equipment (not that I have one) would be covered and he said yes. It makes me feel uneasy - any insurance experts here?
My first encounter with K2 Mastering
Bombaywalla, Thank you for the links - very interesting. Many people assume that 16/44.1 has to be perfect because Nyquist says so. Nyquist criteria requires no signal above half of the sampling frequency or signal would fold (alias) to 0Hz and up...
Class A to XX Watts
It all depends on the amp design. Typical class AB amp will suffer slightly more distortions with higher bias (overbias) as it is shown here: http://bgaudioclub.org/uploads/docs/AudioAmplifiers.pdf (chart on page 189) and here: http://www.kelm.ftn...
Airport Express/Apple TV into DAC vs Mac into DAC
Steve, look at this measurement page of Stereophile review. It shows Benchmark DAC1 excellent jitter suppression.http://www.stereophile.com/content/fifth-element-18-measurementsDo you know by any chance jitter numbers for AppleTV?
Airport Express/Apple TV into DAC vs Mac into DAC
Arni, If signal from computer is delivered asynchronously like S/Pdif (Toslink, coax) then in addition to computer clock jitter there would be cable/system jitter. Jitter supressing DACs like Benchmark are always beneficial but not everybody likes...
