WHAT TV SHOULD I GET RIGHT NOW?
I have 55" Samsung UN55D8000 edge lit LED TV. It is absolutely great with very deep black levels and huge brightness/contrast. It has only 0.25" frame and is about 1" thick. You need to decide if you like Plasma or LCD/LED. They look very differen...
Amplifier Capacitance
Aewhistory, Time constant is amount of time it takes to bring voltage to 63.2% of desired value. For instance applying 10 volts to 1000uF capacitor thru 10ohm resistor will result in 6.32V on capacitor after time equal 10ohm x 1000uF = 10ms. Same ...
Amplifier Capacitance
Class AB - there is not fixed "time constant" since discharge time depends on loudness/load. We could take discharge time at max volume and compare it to reciprocal of -3dB bottom frequency of the amplifier but it wouldn't make difference to me si...
SSD Type Drives Better?
SSD drive is acoustically silent, might take less power, might be electrically quiet. Also your rip might be different, unless you copied it from the other drive. Drive contains data (files) with no timing, that go thru the output buffers (memory)...
Amplifier Capacitance
Aewhistory, Look at this chart: http://www.powerint.com/en/community/papers-circuit-ideas-puzzlers/circuit-ideas/careful-rectifier-diode-choice-simplifies-and-Top graph shows amp's supply voltage. Capacitor is charged from transformer thru rectifi...
The best way to break in speakers.
Break-in tracks won't damage speakers but other tracks might do. It is enough for the player to get out of repeat mode or for the owner to make mistake and engage "repeat disk" instead of "repeat track". I'm just saying be careful and check what i...
The best way to break in speakers.
Play them normally and enjoy. Test CDs might contain tracks that could damage speakers. Stereophile Test CD, for instance, contains track with high frequencies at 0dB that can fry tweeters if amp is set to normal listening levels.
Oppo 95 vs. Mac Mini + dac
Berylium tweeters are much better than aluminum dome ones. In addition the one in Paradigm Studios v2 was $20 Vifa, made by (or for) Paradigm. If I remember correctly Stereophile review of Electra 1037 it is very neutral sounding.Benchmark still c...
Balanced or Not
You still get benefit of common mode noise rejection using balanced cables even if amplifier is not fully differential. You also get benefit of better, safer locking connectors. Balanced cables are better, IMHO, but it is matter of your environmen...
Oppo 95 vs. Mac Mini + dac
Benchmark is pretty much a reclocker (asynchronous data rate converter). ECD-1 being upsampler might have similar ability but can only go as far as jitter of its internal clock allows. The best would be to borrow reclocker and just try if you can ...
Oppo 95 vs. Mac Mini + dac
Kzhtoo, I use AE with Benchmark DAC1 that has strong jitter suppression. Music is on external Firewire HD of MacMini that I also use for other tasks. I also use 5GHz 802.11n Linksys router with dual band adapter on the MAC side (has only 2.4GHz). ...
Oppo 95 vs. Mac Mini + dac
Kzhtoo - when you download music wirelessly (Airplay) from MacMini or Iphone/Ipad playback program becomes unimportant (unless it does additional processing like upsampling). MacMini side (playback program, memory, disk, power supply) is not impor...
stereo system evaluation--objective or subjective
Mrtennis,The answer is no. Technical measurements are objective but often gear that measures best sounds the worst.
stereo system evaluation--objective or subjective
Geoffkait, That's true, but evaluating TV picture is not that simple. Where it comes to sharp/soft or cold/warm static picture anybody can see it right away, but when the same picture looks very different at 240Hz refresh rate it become complex. M...
Anyone Using Bose 901 speakers In A Home Theater?
....and you have no experience with the 901's.I just questioned if you can get good sound level from such small speaker in very large room, even if you use four of them for the front.
