Audiophile Speakers with 25 yr + Longevity
Ivan_nosnibor, My Hyperion HPS-938 speakers have 6.5" midrange with ferrofluid instead of suspension (spiderweb). Speakers are pretty new but I will face this problem in the future. Company itself, if still in business, may belly-up soon. I don't ...
does your system "warm up" and then sound better?
Larryi, Electrolytic caps are worse with temperature. ESR increases with temperature sometimes even causing thermal runaway when capacitor heats itself by ripple current times ESR (mostly old dried-up caps). On the other hand electrolyte eats diel...
What can I do to improve my computer?
Timlub, as Audioengr said you cannot really improve it other than improving clock (reducing jitter) on the other side of the bridge. You can run all the programs you want in parallel and it won't make a bit of a difference, since it affects only t...
"Native" 192 vs Upsampled 192 quality?
How can you compare when your CD data is not 24 bit? Also, the fact that DAC outputs it at 192kHz is not necessarily a good thing, since D/A converter chips have higher THD at higher sample rates. For that reason Benchmark DAC1 outputs only 110kHz...
What are your general thoughts of B&W speakers
How many manufacturers offer diamond tweeters? They are certainly at the fore front of technology.Perhaps because it is not superior to Berrilum Tweeters. Steve Mowry says in the article "The Whole Truth About Beryllium Diaphragms: -"For a given g...
Replace volume pot
Marakanetz, 50k and 100k pot set at exactly same angle provide almost exactly same loudness since its operation is ratiometric - resistance have nothing to do with it, I used word "almost" because there is not two exactly same pots, even with the ...
Stereo Volume Pot
Pots might vary the most at the lowest volume setting but it is difficult to talk about it in terms of resistance because volume pots are used as dividers (ratio of resistance). Max difference of these ratios is often specified by pot manufacturer...
Replace volume pot
Most likely it won't do anything for you because pot's are used as dividers and not resistors. They select value around 20k - 100k because smaller values tend to load previous stage while unnecessarily large pots are prone to noise pickup and migh...
CAP QUESTION
I assume you're talking about electrolytic caps. If it is power supply cap then it might explode. Reverse polarity causes electrochemical reduction of dielectric leading to short that heats up electrolyte, expanding and possibly exploding.
iTunes dropping album artwork
Puerto, You can open properties by right clicking and selecting "Get Info". You can do that to one song or more if you mark them. Sometimes only one song has artwork. I don't know why, perhaps this song was highlighted/selected when I was dragging...
iTunes dropping album artwork
I had this problem when one song was selected. During playback artwork was shown only for one song. I fixed it by marking all songs and pasting artwork in properties.
How Do Digital Amplifiers Clip?
Yes, soft clipping is built into Icepower amps.
Re Biasing a SS Amp?
In my opinion it will make it worse. It is called overbiasing. There is optimal amount of bias for any class AB amplifier. Increasing bias makes partial operation in class A but is increasing window of increased gain caused by the fact that two, i...
Why do digital coax cables matter?
Sure, but I would sell that system and get one that meets the specs so I dont have to try to find a wacked-out cable that matches it.How user can possibly know that wire or system meets the spects? I prefer to choose cable for the system and not t...
Why do digital coax cables matter?
Steve, What you describe is general quality of the cable and not performance of the cable in particular system. Characteristic impedance different than 75 ohm can be very good, as Al mentioned, if it is better match for given system. Same for slow...
