Your last concert was to see who and when?
Rbrowne - I envy you. I have Rruga CD and listen to it often. There are world class performers coming to my small village (Joey DeFrancesco, John Mayall, Bill Frisell, Taj Mahal) but not often enough.
Your last concert was to see who and when?
Taj Mahal, few months ago - what a class!
Tord Gustavsen's Extended Circle is Extraordinary
Thank you for recommendation. I have Ground, Being There and Changing Places. This trio is wonderful - I will definitely check Extended Circle.
Lossless Files Vs CD's
I absolutely agree with Al (as usual). Good ripping program can be set to read the same sector forever until checksum is valid. If anything, copy is better than original, becoming exact studio data while CDP often interpolates. In addition to often...
Spdif cable
Zavato, It is very difficult to recommend particular cable because it is not only system dependent but also sensitive to amount of electrical noise present. The difference between cables is caused by the jitter of digital signal that converts basi...
What compares favorably with Audioquest Niagras
I considered Niagara but got wonderful Acoustic Zen Absolute instead for less.http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?fcabl&1267628378
Lossless Files Vs CD's
Xerox copy might be good analogy, but it is different with CDs. I cannot find any difference with headphones or the speakers between original CD and the CD-R copy. If anything, copy SHOULD sound better than original because ripping program, I use,...
Budget DAC
Greatwhitebat, Apple TV converts 44.1kHz to 48kHz (native HD format) loosing sound quality on the conversion. Read this:http://www.appledystopia.com/bad-apple/apple-tv-poor-audio-quality/You have other options - one of them is Airport Express. It ...
Which of these 3 dacs is your favorite?
If I remember correctly Apple TV outputs data at 48kHz. It is OK for TV but requires conversion 44.1kHz to 48kHz for CDs and it might cause audible loss of quality.
Need computer audio advice.
Doggiehowser, I wonder if other reclockers are sensitive to sources too. DAC1 isn't by any means perfect (as I thought before) since DAC2 promises improved suppression. Perhaps I'll try to add reclocker. Output signal should look like standard S/P...
Need computer audio advice.
Doggiehowser, My Benchmark DAC1 does reclocking internally and have pretty good jitter suppression (very clean sound), but according to Steve external reclocker does even better job. I have to try one someday.
Need computer audio advice.
Matt, when you use network you send data and not the music. The difference is that data has no timing - timing is recreated on the other side of network bridge. Your file format, amount of memory, type of HD, speed of computer, playback program et...
RCA to XLR adapter vs buy a balanced cable
It might be debatable if XLR sounds better than RCA (requires additional circuitry to make it balanced), but having choice between RCA+adapter or XLR I would choose XLR for it's superior noise rejection (assuming the same cost).
The End Of Out-Of-Print Music
At the very beginning of CD analog many tapes were digitized with less than perfect A/D conversion resulting in noisy and often harsh recordings. The only remedy is to digitize it again if analog tapes still exist.
The End Of Out-Of-Print Music
I suspect that cost of CD has very little to do with cost of printing or distribution. It is most likely based on demand and price manipulation. Printing CD is perhaps $1 while royalties to artist are not more than that. Double that for distributi...
