Repair or Replace Von Schweikert VS/1 Sub I'm just guessing here, but I would think $300 spent to repair a sub you "have absolutely loved" is money better spent than $500+ on a used sub which you may or may not absolutely love.
Phono stage recommendation please I use a Nighthawk with my Scoutmaster and Dyna 20XL to great results. Only compared the Nighthawk to the Cambridge 640P. Naturally, the Nighthawk trounced the 640P (as to be expected given the price differential). Can't comment on the other phono ...
Soundsmith's turnaround time? I FedEx-ed my Dynavector 20XL (damaged cantilver, replaced with ruby cantilever) to Soundsmith on 8-11-10. It was signed for on 8-16-10. I got a phone call from Michelle letting me know it was ready on 9-9-10. So 8-16-10 to 9-9-10 is a 3 week and ...
VPI feet No, the feet on the motor are just mounted to the bottom with some screws. You might could back the screws out some to raise the motor height, but they aren't designed for that purpose and I imagine the feet would come off before you reached the h...
Is it okay to talk around your speakers? I put cryo-treated tin foil hats on my speakers to prevent any bad vibes from penetrating.
VPI 16.5 clamp While were talking about the HW-16.5, what is the thickness of the cork mat? I'm thinking of buying a neoprene sheet ala Markd51's mod. Thanks.
VPI 16.5 clamp I bought a second hand HW-16 that appears to have been kit upgraded to a 16.5. It has the original foam platter. I've never experience a problem with slipping, but I have had a record or two seized by the vacuum wand. The LP stood still while the ...
VPI 16.5 clamp I've heard the 45 RPM clamp VPI sells is better. The knurled knob is kinda dinky, but that's what ya get for $8. The 45 RPM clamp can be bought off eBay for $25-ish.
Different arm for VPI Scoutmaster From what I recall, the JMW-9 to 10.5i upgrade is $1500 and the JMW-9 Signature to 10.5i upgrade is $1000. Prices may have changed and they don't seem to be listed any more on the VPI site.
What's First, Interconnects or Speaker? From what I've been led to believe, you should upgrade cables from source to pre. The theory is that your system can't resolve when it doesn't receive first. If you lose it from the source, it's gone forever.
VPI JMW-9 Signature Tonearm vs. Cartridge Weight I *think* the only difference between the 9 and 9 Signature is the Nordost wire so I would assume the cartridge weight specs would be the same. VPI sells a small headshell weight is the Delos is too light.
has anyone ever listened to a 45lp at 33.3 I played a Skinny Puppy 45 at 33.3. Thought they were just being even more experimental. When I went to flip the record, I took the clamp off and noticed the "45 RPM" printed on the label. D'OH!!
Smoke Head or Sherry Bomb? My usually Laphroaig 10 goes for around $42 around here. I recently purchased the Laphroaig 18 for right around $85.
The Social Network FYI:I just pre-ordered the CD and with the purchase I received a free instant download of the entire album on 320K MP3 and my choice of FLAC or Apple Lossless.
