Should I upgrade to a Manley Chinook phono pre-amp
I demoed a Chinook and end up purchasing it as well. I replaced a Ray Samuels Nighthawk with the Chinook. It's hard to imagine, but the Chinook is actually quieter than the Nighthawk. The Nighthawk picked up some hum due to it's location and there...
D links and i links are they compatible?
Just looking over Pioneer's current product line, I didn't see anything with an I.link connection. Perhaps they've abandoned it. I looked at their top end Elite SC-68 and it didn't have I.link which leads me to believe they aren't using it anymore...
Phono Pre Amp Recommendation
In that price range, I'd seriously consider a Ray Samuels Audio F-117 Nighthawk. I've owned one and only recently replaced it with a Manley Chinook.
D links and i links are they compatible?
Typically these I.link, D-link, and other ?-links are proprietary to the manufacturer. Their idea was that you'd buy all your components from the same family to take "advantage" of their linking/communication features. I doubt Denon's D-link will ...
wall mounts?
I'm using a slim profile mount from Monoprice.com for my 55" LED. Their mounts are significantly cheaper than any of the other mounts I looked at.
VPI JMW Jig Question
VPI has kinda muddied the water with their Classic arms iterations. There are now 3 versions of the Classic tonearm. Based on what I can tell, the Classic 1 tonearm is the arm that comes with the Classic 1 table (duh). It does not have the VTA adj...
VPI JMW Jig Question
My understanding is the Classic 3 arm is the same as the old JMW-10.5i arm which has a 256mm spindle to pivot distance. However, I suggest you confirm this with VPI first.
JMW 10.5 tonearm cartridge recommendation
I've used a Dynavector DV-20XL on a JMW-9 Signature and my current JMW-10.5i with excellent results. Based on anecdotal evidence, the most common carts for JMW arms are Benz, Dynavector, and Lyra.
VPI JMW Jig Question
Sorry for the thread hijack:I've got a Mint LP coming in the mail (Yip shipped it this morning). Should I do anything to compensate for the thickness of the Mint LP? I see several users stating that the Mint LP is thicker than most records and som...
VPI JMW Jig Question
Oh, I see. I don't think the jig can be used for that function per se. If it can, it'll be tedious. The jig is more usual for setting up a cartridge on a VPI table with pre-drilled/pre-attached tonearm. I know on my JMW-10.5i tonearm (the one with...
VPI JMW Jig Question
Here what I usually do:Take your arm off the unipivot point. Place the jig over the spindle on your platter. Loosen the screws on the jig so that the V-shaped end can be pushed up against the side of the unipivot cup and tighten the screws back do...

Why aren't current country albums on vinyl
Are there current country albums? Last I could tell, "country" is now pop music with a fiddle and cowboy hat.
need suggestion for external CD ripping drive
I've never used an external CD drive, but I always had good luck with LiteOn internal drives. From what I recall, Plextor used to be the "bee's knees" of internal drives. I assume their external drives are of sufficient quality as well. Look at Ne...
2011 Mac Mini - Is SSD worth it?
Should speed up your boot system, program loading speeds, and system performance as well. SSD is supposed to be significantly faster than standard HDs. I don't own one, yet, so I can't comment factually. Sonically, I dunno.
