Universal remote for audio only
i'm with you! i'd love a nice, chunky aluminum learning remote, but it'd be such a niche product that i doubt it would be cost effective to produce.
VPI Help
does it have a platter, plinth, spindle, and tonearm? then it's definitely a vpi. but, seriously, pics...
Suggestions for a good phono stage
the ray samuel's battery powered nighthawk f-117 phono is garnering some great reviews and only costs $795 with a 30 day money back guarantee. check out the thread at audiocircle.http://www.raysamuelsaudio.com/products/f-117
Select Your Less Than Ideal System
i vote c. hell, my system is c right now.
Scout drive upgrade
vpi will upgrade your scout to rim drive, but i think you could pick up a used sds for cheaper. i've heard using a silk bead cord is better than the rubber belt, but have no first hand knowledge of this.
What companies, out of Business, did you LOVE???
Supratek. I still love my Dual Cabernet. I have heard that Mick takes custom orders from time to time, but he's not producing on the scale he once was.Soliloquy. I never owned any of their speakers, but I did demo a pair several years ago and real...
Why hasnt yamamoto A-o11 gotten more love?
I think it's little brother, the A-08S steals it's spotlight. I feel the same way about my A-08S that you do about your A-011. And yes, the Yammies are beautifully constructed and finished.
Best single-malt Scotch...
well, one year after my last post, i've found laphroaig 10 to be my staple scotch. i've gone through the cask strength, 15, and quarter cask, but find that the standard 10 is most pleasing overall. i tried the lagavulin 16, but it always left me w...
Preamp Deal of the Century
Still loving my Dual Cabernet. I'm just regretting not getting a Supratek with a built in phono now that I'm getting my feet wet on vinyl. Anybody have a sub $2k phono stage recommendation? I'm currently leaning towards the Aqvox unit, but not rea...
Removing fine scratch marks from VPI plinth
i haven't used it before, but novus is made specifically for repairing fine scratches in plastic/acrylic. http://www.novuspolish.com
Playstation 3 + DSD disc + HDMI = Hi Rez sound??
i may be mistaken, but i don't think the ps3 actually passes dsd. i think it downconverts it to pcm and then passes it via hdmi. i remember reading this somewhere, but i can't remember where. check your manual though as it might say.
Ortofon A90 review.... wrong choice of gear
While I understand and, to some degree, agree with your point about the price/performance issue regarding the reviewers phono stage, you seem to be glossing over the fact that many pieces of equipment perform well beyond what their price indicates...
Need a VR1 replacement driver
Call Von Schweikert?
Why are there so many Mac users?
like everybody said, macs are just easier to run. i've never owned a mac and for the cost difference, i could build a faster, quieter desktop system for the money i'd spend on a mac. some people just don't want the hassle of a pc.
Another VPI or something else for under $2k
if it were me and i were building a second system, i would look into a different flavor. you've got your chocolate (vpi), now see about a vanilla....or maybe butter pecan. yeah, butter pecan!
