Tube Discussion Microphonics? I'm with the Clueless one here. Yikes, talk about an unpredictable tone control/ reverb pedal! Microphonics be bad, very bad!
Solid State replacement for AI Modulus 3A. I recently sold an ARC LS12 that I thought was an amazing preamp for the money, not because I didn't like it but because I had to sell a whole system to make room for our new daughter. Definitely try to listen to one; they didn't get much press bu...
Solid state design options... The way you get really high DF (ie, really low output impedance) is with negative feedback in the output stage. This isn't the only factor, just the easiest way to reduce the output impedance to really low numbers. And with negative feedback comes...
Solid state design options... I was reading on the VAC website a while back about damping factor, and it caused me to rethink it a bit. Their point is that amps with high DF are essentially using back-emf as feedback to the amp, thus modifying the current delivery from the amp...
highpass passive line level crossover pllxo design Fundamentally, all you need is a capacitor in series. Most preamps or amps will have a specified input impedance, and if designed properly, it will be resistive in nature. The standard RC network equation f=1/(2piRC) can then use this input impeda...
higher end cd player Given your self-described preferences, no doubt whatsoever: Get the Audio Aero.
What is your cost for each system category ? Thsalmon,Doesn't it suck to make a joke and nobody gets it? Rest assured, it cracked me up.
REAL Sub/sat satisfaction? Can it be done? Absolutely! And with some care in setup, will actually work better than comparable cost full-range speakers. This of course assumes quality subs are being used. REL, Aerial, Audio Physic, MartinLogan, to name a few. Forget it if you're trying to s...
What componant degrades the signal least/most? Of all components, the speaker is the biggest problem, hands down. I'm not including the room as a component, but if I did, it would be at the top.
Wadia, Krell or Sony SACD If you are only interested in playing cd's, then the Wadia for sure. If SACD's are in your near future, then you're probably best off with the Sony.
A Shocking Experience Might try changing to a different pair of shoes; different rubbers and plastics have a wide variation in their tendency to build up static charge.
Time coherence - how important and what speakers? 4th order LR does have the benefits described. It should be noted that your particular link seems to be talking mainly about ACTIVE crossovers, meaning (typically) op-amp based electronic filters placed upstream of the power amps. This is an absol...
how to connect Vandersteen 2Wq to integrated amp An easier solution in your case would be a REL sub, which does not divide the signal going to the mains, but instead simply adds in low bass. It hooks up to the speaker output terminals on your amp. It works extremely well. The 2Wq is a good sub b...
digital amps As good as they are as a stereo amp (and they are very, very good), the Bel Canto's should really be used in bridged mono configuration if you want to hear what they are capable of. Their circuit topology isn't really well suited to one-per-channe...
Tube newbie, Audio Research questions? The ARC 100.2 is way more musical than the similarly priced Krells and would be a much better choice IMO. If you want more than 100 wpc, though, you have to look elsewhere. |
