High Quality Outlets Where to get them?? Try percyaudio.com, I know he has some but I'm not sure what they cost. Otherwise, try an electrician supply house, they should be able to get them.
200w/ch stereo amps: best 1 for under 2000 used? Gotta second (third?) the first two posts, Bryston 4BST is a phenomenal amp for the price, BAT VK200 is incredible as well although rated at "only" 100 WPC. I have owned both and feel that the BAT is overall more musical, but the Bryston is more p...
Recommendations Needed: Upgrading from ARC CD-1 Elgordo is right on, your original description of your system's sound is an exact description of the Vandersteens, with a very small amount of influence from your amp and cdp. While an amp upgrade would make a definite improvement, it still will l...
Proac Respnse 1SC vs 1.5 vs B&W 805N If you can swing it, definitely the ProAc 1.5. The ProAcs IMO sound much more alive and real than the B&W's, which I've always felt to sound too sterile and sanitized.
Can Dynaudio 1.3mk2 be driven well by tube gear? Don't know what tube gear you've tried. They need current to open up, so on a budget they are better with SS, but with BIG tube amps (AR, VTL, etc) they can be great. (what isn't?) 100wpc is probably the bare minimum, more is better. Just a questi...
BEST SUB FOR MUSIC Save yourself the pain, get a REL (ST series) and forget the rest. You have a very high-quality system which means the servo subs are out (they will sound maddeningly slow and thuddy), and your speakers can easily go full-range so there is no poin...
Is the CAL ICON a reliable choice in a used CDP I have had several old CALs and they have been electrically reliable but mechanically not so good. The drawers eventually get sticky and have to be cleaned, drawer drive belt replaced, etc. I would strongly recommend finding a Mk II with Power Bos...
Bryston or Classe I would go with Bryston, partly for the synergy with the 4Bst (which I've owned and I feel is a phenomenal amp for the price, much less colored than any Krell I've ever owned or heard, and in a completely different league than the Acurus and Arago...
Amp suggestions I have to agree with chuck and gregm. The dynaudios are great speakers, don't replace them. And you do need a high-current amp. Forget about tubes for these speakers, they will never have the impact and openness they are capable of. |
