MoFi controversy
A friend of mine, who cuts lacquers with a Neumann VMS 80, has explained to me in the past that it is much more difficult to get a good cut with an all analog master tape than a digital one.  Most lathes preview the a digital file which allows the...
Acoustic Signature turntables
My current table is a thread driven high mass design with a opposing magnets on the plinth and platter to reduce bearing stress. I have both AC-thread (original) and DC belt drive on the same table, the later an add on from Galibier designs.  I pr...
Pass XP27 vs. Rowland Conductor Phono
I've used two different Pass phono preamps, the XP15 and currently the XP-27.  Both are uncolored and transparent in my experience.  Not a component I would describe as veiled.  I've not directly compared to Rowland phono stages. The XP-27 is a pl...
Brand new Lyra Delos - skewed cantilever
Looks like a Delos stylus to me too.
Brand new Lyra Delos - skewed cantilever
Great thread!   @anthos314 I have used three different Lyra's over the past several years. I started with a Delos, then an Atlas and now an Etna SL.  Haven't had the chance to listen to a lambda version in my system.  They all share a "house" sou...
Cartridge Force - Is a Little 'Over-Force' Okay?
It is hard to recommend using too much VTF on any cartridge. Do you have an accurate tracking force gauge? Too much VTF may rob you of some of the finesse of the cartridge, high frequency extension and "air". That being said, Sumiko lists this MM ...
Dr. Feickert Blackbird
Interesting story @edgyhassle.  I think that is very similar to my friend who inherited the Marantz gear when his father passed away. No way would he get rid of those pieces as they have meaning for him.  He often says that he cant believe how the...
Dr. Feickert Blackbird
Since all listeners approach playback from their own perspective and goals there are many many different ways to skin the audio cat.  To @mijostyn the focus seems to be on an vibration isolated table with a dustcover, flat clean record, mid compli...
Dr. Feickert Blackbird
I use both a Kuzma 4P9 and a vintage FR-64S.  This is my 2 arm combo because it lets me use a wide variety of cartridges from low to medium compliance. The arms have subtle differences in their sound with the Kuzma having higher resolution and cla...
“House” Character of Popular $20-$30k Speakers
Reading through this thread and surprised that no one suggested Vandersteen. The powered bass in the Quatro CT or Kento integrate into your room and “unburden” your Diablo. They are imaging champions and never fatiguing.  Worth an audition for sure.
Vintage Tuner-Only wonderful because it's the SOUND I grew up with?.....
I had the opportunity to purchase a Marantz 10b tuner from its original owner.  Had it cleaned and checked out and have been enjoying its vibes for a couple years now. Mounted a nice FM tuner on my roof and I pick up stations all over the Michigan...
Solid State Phono Stages
Very happy with my Pass XP-27.  Super quiet and brings out the uniqueness of each cartridge. No balanced input, but has a true balanced output. Great controls up front for MC, MI, MM carts.
Anyone out there own a Clearaudio Double Matrix Pro Sonic?
I know @mijostyn is looking for opinions from clearaudio users. I have never used one. I just wanted to offer the DeGritter alternative. It is cheaper but slower (5 - 10 minutes to a clean and dried LP). It uses a sweep of different US wavelengths...
The Sota Cosmos Vacuum Turntable
@sbank Nice to hear that you are enjoying the Audiomods V.   I still have an armboard for a Rega geometry arm like the Audiomods...I bet my Ortofon A90 would sound great on it.  Anyway, I bet it works great with your Sota, the real subject of thi...
The Sota Cosmos Vacuum Turntable
@mijostyn I use a Vibraplane/Symposium combo at the moment so I don't really need a suspended turntable for isolation.  Totally understand about the wait.  Not all know that these table take time to get out of the production process.   Enjoy!
