Mono Blocks on a Budget, is it possible?
+1 Quicksilver. I can also recommend the Mini-mite monoblocks for $1200 @ ~25 wpc. They sound very good if speakers are > 92dB/1m/1w and don't drop much below 6 ohms across the Hz range.
Full-Range to Monitors
Lots of great points already made. I’m not a big subwoofer fan maybe because I’ve never owned a very high end make/model so standmount monitors never gave me the sense of completeness that I like for my mostly low/mid volume music listening levels...
How loud is too loud
In my experience, if/when the sound quality appears deteriorated after playing the music real real loud, either the tweeters or the listener’s ears, or both are damaged.
MQA through Toslink
I don’t see any references to MQA on the ifi site. A cool gadget nonetheless.
Room placement for Lawrence Audio double bass speakers.
I don't have any experience with these particular speakers but speakers that are ported at the bottom in general sound better when placed on a solid platform as opposed to carpet. Using something like a large ceramic tile could be a cheap way to e...
Thoughts on the most difficult instruments for speakers to reproduce?
I find most speakers having difficulty presenting the size of the piano on the stage same with vertical instruments like double bass. The sound may be close but the overall experience is not very real as the fingers move up and down the neck.
MQA through Toslink
My understanding is Node2 supports MQA though its coax digital, probably through Optical as well but I am not sure. Of course, the downstream DAC will need to also support MQA in order to hear MQA quality content. Analog RCA is a sure bet without ...
What's Your Take on This ?
Not sure if the OP is asking for opinions or recommendations but either way the 535 was actually a better amp as compared to some of the higher power models like 545 or even 555. It is also more easily and cheaply upgradable. I've owned all three ...
Which component to upgrade?
Thanks. I’ll read the posted threads.
A Question on Speaker Driver Efficiency
+1 AlThank you. People need to learn to express their opinions without the need to insult others, especially the ones whose knowledge and experience as well as their contributions are unique in this industry.
New Speakers ... Can't Stop "Listening"
The discussion or perhaps digression around the kits and similarity of the drivers was not intended to imply that folks who buy "designer" high end speakers are being ripped off. Building these kits is work and takes patience and tuning them to ta...
Bluesound Node 2 as a preamp?
peter_s, I have compared the analog and the digital outputs of Node2 using two different DACs; Schiit Modi Multibit and DACmagic Plus. These DACs didn't seem to add much to the quality of the sound as compared with the analog output, in my system....
New to DAC, need advice.
I think moving away from PC/USB source combo by itself will give you better sound quality and is the right way to go. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by the sound quality and ease of use switching over to Node2.
New Speakers ... Can't Stop "Listening"
erik, I saw that kit. It'll make a great sounding speaker and with the right cabinet will compete with $10K-$15K commercial speakers. Makes for a great summer project.
New Speakers ... Can't Stop "Listening"
This goes to show how important is the way speakers and crossovers are designed since the drivers appear to be commercially available SEAS components, albeit all top quality. He doesn't mention which models he uses but similar (or maybe the same) ...
