erik, if you have the speakers on hardwood or tile floors, any kind of sound absorption in front and between them on the floor is an absolute requirement. Also, depending on the speaker type, some absorption (or defraction) on the ceilings between...
High End Ethernet Cables ....Real Deal or Snake Oil
In most homes, there are outlets in various rooms for BNC (110 ohm) cable connections for TV use. There are "adaptors" out there that allow converting BNC to RJ45, of course without the need for getting a second modem set up which can be problemat...
Synergistic Red Fuse ...
I honestly cannot believe I'm witnessing so much drama for just a fuse! I would be embarrassed to tell my "non-audiophile" friends such a thread even exists and worse yet, I'm actually posting on it. This is a sort of thing I expected to see from ...
amp and unwanted speaker vibration
Are you saying the speakers sound/look fine for the first 30/60 minutes after turning on the amp and then the woofers start moving in/out rapidly?
PSB Imagine T3 Floor‑Standing Speakers
I've heard them at a friend's home paired with McIntosh gear. They sound incredibly detailed and warm. He has them placed almost 10' apart and 3' from the front and side walls. The soundstage they create is simply amazing if you give enough room t...
Synergistic Red Fuse ...
mapman, that was my takeaway too, e.g., fuse directly in the signal path, etc., and sort of proves my "seat of the pants" theory. The more (directly) the fuse is placed in the signal path, the more the improvement in the SQ. Its a theory (for me) ...
Looking For Info On Optimus 1100 Speakers
Some models might have been surprisingly good but most models unsurprisingly sucked. For full disclosure, I only owned a bookshelf size back in the day for my "garage" system and heard two others; another larger bookshelf size and one floor standi...
High end vintage vs contemporary DAC's - are sonic improvements real?
You mean a USB -> coax S/PDIF adapter? I have seen USB -> BNC (110 ohm) adaptors out there for game boxes but not sure how good they are. Try places like part connextion or monoprice.
High end vintage vs contemporary DAC's - are sonic improvements real?
I think the biggest common misperception is that the type/model of the chip set in a DAC (or a CDP) makes the most difference in its SQ. Aside from the choice of components, e.g., capacitors, resistors, etc., the main reason these "older" DAC/CDPs...
Synergistic Red Fuse ...
Thank you mapman. I’m going to leave it alone for now and use the fuses if/when I really need to.By the way, I mentioned this fuse "magic" to my brother a couple of weeks ago and suggested he try them in his older Magnepan 1.5QR speakers by replac...
Synergistic Red Fuse ...
I asked this question a little while back and I don’t know if anyone responded. Hard to keep track with so much traffic. Anyway, let me ask again: I got the new fuses but when I went in to replace the fuses, I see the stock ones are in the standar...
Totem Forest Signature -or- Spendor D7
Depending on how friendly your friends are, if it were me, I would borrow their speakers over a weekend - lent my gear more than I can remember, and hear them in my own home. That's what friends are for...
Opinions on Quicksilver Valve Linestage Preamp
The SF model is advertised as an Anthem brand supposedly "made by" SF. Not sure what that means.
MQA ? Pono? What's better than the CD?
The MQA topic has been (and is being) discussed ad nauseam in other (adjacent) threads, but my personal takeaway is the extent someone is impressed (or not) with the difference MQA makes in SQ completely depends on the quality of the digital compo...
Price increase
This is a game many of these "high end" ----  makers play, fill in the blanks. They drastically increase the prices on their new models in order to give the (potential) buyers a sense of "investment" value for their products. In the meantime, the ...
