what are your top "audio bargins" in your system history?
A Gustard R26 I paid full retail for ($1600) last year was the best bang for buck I've yet experienced in my system.
Best Direction/Product Combo DAC/Streamer
Gustard R26 for $1.5K is so good you need to spend WAY more to get better sound, something like a Lumin T3 for $6K (and even then I'd say it's not "better" sounding just different). The only downside to the Gustard is you need to use ROON (or a DL...
Looking for advise with selecting next integrated amp
USED PASS INT 250 or GRYPHON 120 NEW  CODA CSIB V1 or UNISON RESEARCH UNICO 150
Gustard R26
Some guys actually have MULTIPLE switches because they believe reclocking the signal multiple times BEFORE a DDC/clock/DAC stack yields benefits - in this crazy hobby, I wouldn't be the least surprised if that is true lol!
Gustard R26
@zeusodin the LHY makes a significant difference. To me in my system EVERY tweak so far has yielded positive results (including good cabling) although I must say the most audible tweak was switching from copper to fiber optic from the switch to th...
How much does a DAC do the more expensive it is?
@charles1dad yes it's obvious that if measurements captured ALL sonically relevant parameters then excellent measurements would correlate strongly with sonic excellence. One such parameter is soundstage width/depth - which set of measurements reli...
How much does a DAC do the more expensive it is?
@simao great that you are satisfied with the Gungnir, I must admit it has been expensive suffering from upgraditis! My limited understanding of the technical design differences between expensive and cheap DACs is that power supply, isolation, and ...
PS Audio Direct Stream MK2 DAC
Odd that actual MK 2 owners are reporting zero hum here, yet Ted acknowledges there is a capacitor that hums. The fact the hum is inconsistent or intermittent or nonexistant in many cases is curious - since the capacitor in question is in the powe...
How much does a DAC do the more expensive it is?
@simao you experience a wow moment after adding the Gungnir then pose the question, what do even more expensive DACs do better/different than cheaper ones like your Gungnir, then later you describe a listening session where an uber expensive CD pl...
Gryphon Diablo 300 or Pass Labs Int-250 to Sonus faber Amati Tradition
I have the 300 and it is not "squeaky clean" nor "unforgiving" nor "brutally honest" - it is simply neutral compared to the 250. SF is a good speaker brand to match with Gryphon overall, especially if you want to retain the easy-going SF sonic cha...
Integrated amp recommendation
+1 on the Brio new and H95 used
Did the Old Receivers Sound Good?
Listen to any audio professional who has made a name for himself as designer and manufacturer, Mark Levinson or John Curl for example, they've all been on the record saying the ascension of advancing design and manufacturing technologies has led t...
Integrated Amplifier for Bowers & Wilkins 702 S2
The X3 is great but the 390 has a better DAC and has a streamer module so you don't need to buy a separate streamer +1 on BAT hybrid integrated can be found used for $5K CODA CSIB is a US-made SS integrated, very smooth and pure sound, and can b...
8-10k budget suggestions please
Transparent cables are what I use with my Lumin/Gryphon/804 system. My 804s are the latest version and measure comparatively poorly AND present a tougher load to the amplifier than your 804s, yet they were my choice for my tastes/room/budget etc. ...
Streaming Dac $5000-8000
Aurender A15 is $8K and has a preamp, the app is stable and sounds great, it also can be used as a streamer/server as it has USB output Holo Audio May 'Kitsune' DAC with the companion Red DDC/streamer is $7K and is an even more flexible option as...
