Integrated suggestions
+1 on Lab12 and Audio Hungary Qualiton, have heard both manufacturers' top integrateds (and some of their separates), excellent price/value ratio. I own a Qualiton C200 preamp which I just recently purchased for a second system, big bold soulful s...
$50k - $80k Budget…Opinions please.
@toddcowles lots of envy of your stated budget in the comments as usual, ignore that and spend what you want. The best advice as a few wise souls have mentioned comes from your original post - Harbeth and Pass is what you had and liked, the safest...
Dac that has tone and timing?
@akiravelvet +1 for Lampizator. I have a Baltic 4 and it's both tonally dense yet resolving. About $7K new retail so above the OP's preferred budget but worth the stretch IMO. To my ears it is clearly a better DAC than my Terminator II. Tube rolli...
New DACs High End Munich 2023
@milpai seems the Weiss 204 is within your budget, if you don't need a streamer module, and you are okay with no native DSD and just the 3 USB/SPDIF/AES standard inputs. It is delta sigma but dual mono and Weiss is of good repute. Another good ch...
Digital Dilemma
@navyachts @soix also IMO if you put an R26 or similarly high performance DAC into a sub $10K system, it is unrealistic to expect it to unilaterally provide a big sonic upgrade. Resolution and soundstage improvements (for example) can only be real...
Digital Dilemma
@navyachts I use a Singxer SU-6 DDC and avoid the LAN input, I use a Lumin U1 (the U1 mini's big brother) out to the R26 via the DDC into either the I2S or AES inputs. The R26 internally reclocks the I2S input signal using an external LHY OCK-2 ma...
Digital Dilemma
I have the R26 as one of my DACs that I swap in and out of a $60K system, I run it via I2S and/or AES inputs with an external clock and DDC and good quality cabling. Set up properly like this it sounds as good as any of my other more costly DACs -...
Gustard R26
@sgreg1 yup in order for the comparison to be fair we have to assume a $5-10K DAC will need to be optimized to the same degree, and actually the extra cost is more like $1.5K in my setup. On another note, it is fascinating to me that the way in wh...
If you had to narrow your choices to 4 - 5 speakers
I like to be surprised by relatively inexpensive speakers ie not more than $10-20K: Spatial Audio PureAudioProject Zu Audio ProAc But I gotta say if I were at Axpona I'd be very curious to hear Acora given all the buzz.
Gustard R26
@kereru thanks for the info! Out of curiosity what other DACs have you got to compare the R26 to?
Gustard R26
@kereru sorry my mistake for misconstruing what you said. BTW I've heard from more than one person that LAN and USB are clocked in the DAC while SPDIF AES I2S are clocked by the streamer/server. I have yet to come across a clear, precise and compr...
Gustard R26
@kereru understood, but why would Gustard only have the LAN input fully utilize a Masterclock signal? What is the logic of that? So the I2S is simply slaved to the DDC's clock and ignores the Masterclock I spent $700 on?
Dark Horse DAC
@ticat exactly, including me, as in nobody should own 5 DACs!
Dark Horse DAC
@johnah5 The OP shared his experience with the Doge for the community's edification, not to receive a lecture on how he's a dupe. FYI there's many who don't care if a tube can only resolve 90 db of dynamic range if the sound is music to their ears...
Accuphase E5000 vs Gryphon Diablo 300
Auditioned both and went for the Gryphon, mainly because it's sound "architecture" is bass-dominant, so given your music tastes I'd go for the Gryphon. Another thing is price, the US Accuphase distributor is greedy so you'll be paying more than yo...
