Maximum VISUAL bang for the buck?
Check out the Michell Gyro SE for a TT (http://www.michell-engineering.co.uk/pic/tur/michell_gyrose.jpg) that definitely has the OOOH visualy factor and can be had used for around $1000 which is a fantastic price for the sound quality and can be u...
VPI Scout ...with Shelter 301 or Grado Sonata??
301? Do you mean the 501 mkII? If I could buy that for the same price as the Grado, I wouldn't hesitate. They are veery different carts. The Grado is a low output MM and the Shelter is a medium output MC. I don't know what phono stage the Berning ...
Home brew cleaning solution
OK, sorry guy's I guess I missed this, why exactly is it good that RRL fluid beads up when intuitively everything would suggest that reduced surface tension is the goal. (that is, after all, the point of using things like photoflo) Is this "Voodoo...
Home brew cleaning solution
I have been doing A/B comparisons of RRL with my homebrew (distilled water with about 10% isopropyl and a few drops of detergent - no photoflow in the last batch). I must say that after 50 or more cleanings I don't hear any significant difference....
Living with popping and crackling
4yanx, Miles Davis is a great way to demonstate the virtues of vinyl. I always found his muted trumpet to sound harsh on even so-call audiophile cd's. I only heard Miles once on SACD when I demoed it at Sound by Singer in NY. I listened to Sketche...
Living with popping and crackling
As a new re-entrant to the vinyl realm, I have purchased some 500+ LP's over the past 2 years, mostly used Ebay and private collection jazz from the 50's thru 70's and some early 80's reissues (never go beyond 84 unless your sure it wasn't digital...
What other speakers would you consider for this ..
Hmm ... the Green Mountain Continuums look interesting but I don't think they will meet the WAF criteria.
Acrylic Source for TT mod?
You really don't need a CNC machine to make a round platter. A lathe or bandsaw will do the job quite nicely. I prefer the bandsaw. Just cut the spindle hole on a drill press then use it as a pivot point to rotate the acrylic through the bandsaw b...

Thanks for the responses so far. On the question of my listening and sonic preferences ... I listen almost exclusively to jazz, large and small combo and blues. I like a system which is quite detailed and dynamic wth lots of soundstage. I found, f...

Good question ... I forgot to add that I would spend max $8000 new retail (which would be 4-5K used). This is, I think the appropriate range to the other components.
Homemade Record Cleaning Fluids??
search the archives here, audioasylum and a Google web search for "cleaning solution" or "record cleaning" and you with discover many answers
Good Quality Distilled Water???
I don't think Sol missed the point. He is saying the whole issue of double tripple quadrupple ionization is a lot of marketing BS whether or no actual use of RRL fluids meats user expectations.
Herman eats crow, RRL record cleaning fluids work
Doug, I have purchased RRL cleaner several times and as I indicated, I thought it worked great but not any better than my home brew which just uses a barely measuable amount of photoflow in a gallon of ditilled water per several recipies that can ...
Source & specs for LP poly outer bags
I've heard the 5ml bgs greatly improve bass resolution compared to the 3ml ... but be sure to adjust VTA for the extra 2ml when you play a record that has been stored in a 5ml bag.
Acrylic Source for TT mod?
In my experience most glass stores also carry acrylic. I have purchased it there several times for various projects. They also cut and bent acrylic to my specs for a price.
