B&W Nuatilus
In 5response to the posters original question - this may actually cause the price of the original Nautilus speakers to rise rather than fall since they look like such a bargain compared to these new prices and the new speakers would have to be pre...
Best cheap cartridge for college student
Thanks for all the great input. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Record Cleaner
I have used (and still use) RRL and Paul Frumkin's cleaner. After dozens of cleanings with Frumkin's and at least one hundred with RRL, I have decided that Frumkin's is best on older dirtier records with significant mold exposure. If I have a new ...
Step-up transformers...
While I'm sure there are other good options, I would second the Bent Trannies. I don't own them but I once borrowed Doug Deacon's and they were awesome. I'm sure Doug will chime in with advice at some point. On the other hand you might just consid...
Quit vinyl?
The answer depends on the quality of your current LP's and whether your musical interests moving forward are best served by LP or CD collecting. Much music today is either only available on cd or available on poor quality LP if you can find it at ...
Well, it LOOKS like crap...
I was recently at a business conference and one of the presenters handed out these squishy "worry balls" to attendees. It's the type of thing you are supposed to squeeze to relieve tension but it has some real interesting properties. If you throw ...
Designing VPI HRX turntable stand long
I saw the ULTIMATE turntable stand over the weekend. I was at Rensellear University attending parents weekend. I visited the the physics department where a graduate student was demonstrating and explaining some of his work with a scanning tunnelli...
Is extremely accurate "VTA" adjustment necessary?
As a "newbie" (about one year) to analog, I cannot debate the views expressed here with any authority but I am interested in continuing to learn and improve my sound. My approach to setting VTA and azimuth has been to use a little bubble level wit...
Results from Beta Testers of New Formulas
Paul, given that, as several have suggested, the first solution may be left on for several minutes, I find that I tend to use more of it on the record to make up for evaporation. Would it make sense for you to sell the first solution in twice the ...
Which is better, gain in phono stage or pre amp?
Oops, you're right, I meant output not gain. Thanks Mike and Jeffrey for the helpful input!
Results from Beta Testers of New Formulas
Some observations from using Paul's formula on about a dozen records:First, A/B comparison of cleaning formulas is clearly inherently difficult - you can't ever make it dirty again and try the other cleaner. Using one cleaner on one side and anoth...

Do you recommend a carbon fibre brush? If so, which? They all seem to be intended for dry brushing.
Speakers to replace B&W N804s ?????
Check out the Audio Physic Virgo's. With the woofer on the side, they present a very narrow face to the listener so appear smaller than what they sound like. I myself am a B&W fan having just traded up from B&W Matrix 804 to Nautilus 803.
Sennheiser HD590 on an airline flight?
I have the Sennheiser HD580's and do a lot of business travel where I have tried using these. Since a jet makes so much noise, if I turn it up to the point where my neighbor can hear, it is probably too loud for my own hearing. I am looking at swi...
