Please Help Me, I'm Lost It sounds like you need a resistor in the signal path (try the Mouser site, maybe 2 ohm ceramic or cement resistors - they are dirt cheap). I would also advise you to look into Al Sekala's RF/EMI choke tweak. Your post was difficult to understand:...
Chopin Fantasie Impromptu, Opus 66 My favorite performance of that 4th impromptu is actually an old Philips recording by Bela Davidovich. Very expressive, well recorded, and quite a bit better than the Rubenstein performance I have.newbee - I just want to disagree with your recomme...
Is China Forbes pitch perfect? I'm a big fan of China and Pink Martini but I would say she is uneven, ranging from the good to the excellent. So don't overdo it. An example: the French song about Syracuse (Sicily), track 10 on Hey Eugene, features some ineffective, shakey singi...
Best pre-amp/amp combo for Maggie MMGs? I'm using a Forte F-40 (Vintage Audio modification) and I am very pleased with it. But the preamp has a dramatic effect on the sound. You need to give us more an idea of your tastes and listening room so that we can provide useful suggestions.
Pioneer Elite A-35r and Magnepan MMG's It isn't enough, and it doesn't have much to do with how loud - it's about transient dynamic peaks, which have a lot to do with timbral differentiation among other things. I highly recommend the MMGs but they require amplification upgrades up the ...
Which Preamp will go well with Mag 3.6R ? jonk - About the DAC, I would recommend a tubed version. I have a Scott Nixon tube DAC that I think is a wonderful piece of equipment. Mdht owners also rave about their DACs.
Ia a good amp more important than a good DAC? I just very much disagree with the statement that a "system is only as good as its weakest link." As I have upgraded components that are not the weakest link, the sound of the system has improved and hasn't stayed the same, as implied by the state...
Anyone use the tweeter attenuation on Maggies? I use a 2 ohm resistor on my MMGs. Without them, the sound is too bright and grainy and I understand the situation is more extreme with the 12s. Also, you need to read up on the choke tweak in the Audio Asylum Planar chat room.
which preamp to buy??? Slightly off-topic but I would replace that Canare coax posthaste. Just changed out mine and it's one of those times when you realize you were using a piece of flawed equipment.
Amp newbie? Adcom GFA-555 vs Mcintosh 2505 Wind - I'm a relative newbie driving MMGs with a 200w (360w into 4 ohms) ss power amp. I think mine (a B&K) does the job well (smooth, warm sound) but haven't done the comparisons to have an informed opinion. I took a similar route as you with...
Where do you buy good CD recordings? amazon
How do you judge your system's neutrality? When you are asked whether you like a particular recording, do you ever say, with great approval, "It was neutral!" Didn't think so. I usually bless favorite recordings with adjectives like "beautiful" or "exciting." The elevation of "neutral" in ...
Novice here with questions Whatever you do, buy name-brand interconnects!! Using the OEMs is literally diluting your music - they are a disaster. Participate in one of the Agon ic auctions or buy the bottom-tier Kimber ics. It will be the best $50 you spend on your audio sy...
difficulty finding CD player match for Magneplanar Timoko - "Okay, guys, thanks for the advice about amps, but for now it is a moot point. The CD player is dying; it has to be the first item to be replaced. I can put in a 500w/ch. amp but if my CD player goes out, I can't listen to music."No, but ...
What gives? CD’s, Solid State? Mapman - ""I'm starting to believe that first impressions about audio equipment are quite close to the final opinion." I think that's debatable at best. Peoples impressions change over time with familiarity and so does the sound of new equipment. ... |
