ICE Amps for classical music?
The thing I would worry about with ICE amps is the massive amount of EMI/RF they throw off. I believe that would be a particular problem with Maggies (which I listen to as well). Am I wrong about either the ICE amps producing EMI/RF or about their...
I can't tell the difference
Mustard - You haven't mentioned your digital coax which will have a big effect on the sound. What type are you using?
Alan Parsons: Original or Remastered CDs?
Thanks Rzem
Alan Parsons: Original or Remastered CDs?
Can any of you Alan Parsons fans identify this song for me (name and album)? It is a song about the death of a friend.
How high end must your system be...
Match - Like knownothing, I readily perceive an upgrade in cabling on my mid-fi second rig. The answer to your question is yes. If you are using OEM interconnects, by the way, spending $50-75 on a lower-grade name-brand ic will probably be the bes...
Classical Music: A How-To Guide for Beginners
Rtn - That's a great recommendation. Beautiful music, and terrific performances.
Black-Eyed-Peas, the future of modern music?
Fergie apparently was a meth addict for a while and has had a total facial reconstruction to fix the damage from those years.
Classical Music: A How-To Guide for Beginners
My advice for the beginning classical music fan isn't a recording - my suggestion is get one recording (hopefully, a pretty good one) and listen to it a lot. Familiarity breeds love with great music. I don't want to start a debate thread since we ...
Do you ever wonder?
You're puzzled about why the Manhattan Transfer had a successful run? Look, it's not my type of music either, but I can recognize the obvious talent and hard work that went into their recordings (and reputedly performances). I took a jazz arrangin...
Ais Ophiopogon 3.1
I bought an AO 3.1 here on Agon a few months ago and was unable to hear any audible difference after trying it in several different spots. I know that numerous Shakti Stones (another anti-EMI device) need to be used to achieve results and the same...
Suggestion for Liszt
Very uneven composer. It's going to take you a while to learn what you like and what Liszt wrote (as a composer rather than as a pianistic improviser) that's good because there's real dreck in there. The really good:Sonata in b minor (I'll recommen...
Other than music, why are you an audiophile?
Because there's no going back? I have been building up my system over the last year and it has really sensitized me to audio performance differences. I just spent a week at my mother-in-law and was gritting my teeth at the harsh consumer grade dig...
Chopin Fantasie Impromptu, Opus 66
OK, newbee, just did a listen to Biret's recording of the Rachmaninoff Sonatas 1 & 2 (the only I one I have) and I stand by my comments so we'll have to disagree. I always enjoy your posts on A'gon, so keep 'em coming.
Chopin Fantasie Impromptu, Opus 66
Newbee - I'm not familiar with her Chopin, although I know she has a positive rep. I usually try to be forgiving of sonics but some of the Naxos releases test my patience and that Rach disc is one of them.
Remotes: Who needs 'em?
I want to second Morgen's rant. After reading this entertaining thread, I inspected my Oppo DVD player remote yesterday (used as a transport). Between 40-50 buttons. The four that I use maybe 90% of the time (play/pause, stop, skip tracks back, fo...
