Take up drums at age 56?
YouTube has changed the game for learning musical instruments. Go for it. You don't need a teacher. They exist all over YouTube. And the basic stuff and even most of the advanced stuff is free. The rest is on lessons you can buy.
CD ripper
I use Foobar2000 to FLAC, but dBpowermap looks to be a decent alternative. Checked out EAC before that, but it has a really terrible interface that looks like an unintuitive design from the early 90's. They all have questionable interfaces, except...
Cd's to make a come back in the future?
What's the point? Digital is digital. While vinyl does sound different, a CD does not sound different from a lossless file. And as far as I know, no one ever got satisfaction from dropping a CD in its tray like they claim from dropping a needle on...
The Science of Cables
I think your general premise is flawed. If millions upon millions can be easily taken in by fad diet claims that make billions of dollars from a concept that’s easily solved by the age-old knowledge of eat less and/or exercise more, what makes you...
What unknown musical artist would you like to share with your fellow audiophiles?
@mitchagain 1) I’ve been very disappointed with the current music of the 21st century. ... So, I was interested in how many responses mentioned current music versus music from the 20th century. I know what you mean. But there are some recent gem...

BEST FEMALE VOCAL EVER
Ann Wilson, circa Little Queen. Listen to Dream of the Archer. I saw her in concert and when she held that note (you'll know it when you hear it) it was chilling.
The "how many reviews it got" rule
@geek101  +1
Is there actually a difference?
There are plenty, but the most famous one is the Stereo Review one from 1987(?). I've been in a couple. No one did better than a coin flip.
What will become of my beloved CDs?
"Will they be the shiny-silver equivalent to 8-Track tapes? "Yes. 8-track tapes are worthless. I tried to sell mine not long ago and would up giving them to charity."Or, will they become a novelty and collectable?" No. See above. They're just a spa...
BUYERS, What Issues have you had with Sellers and Listings that Prevent you from Buying?
Not necessarily their listings, but their attitudes.I have a long memory and will never deal with a seller who displays a poor attitude. In one case, on $1,000 purchase there was an issue with PayPal going through. It wasn't a money issue. It was j...
Best Songs To Sing In The Car To Embarrass Your Kids
Sherry - Frankie Valli ...... if you can sing that high. Even worse if you can't.
CDs Vs LPs
From the detailed technical information I've read, the SQ capability of CD wins hands down. I ditched LPs as soon as CDs came out. Mainly because of tics, pops and hiss. And I ditched CDs as soon as 320kbps downloads came out. Reloaded with FLAC. ...
Interconnects and non-believers
Thank you, prof. As a past participant in some eye-opening blind tests, when it comes to anything except speakers I always ignore subjective views and my viewpoint is "if you didn't hear it blind, you didn't hear it." Your last sentence is the log...
Yanni or Laurel?
I've always heard "Yanni". When I moved the NYT slider to the third tick from the left I started hearing "Laurel". Then as I moved it towards the right I kept hearing "Laurel" all the way to the farthest right tick. It was only after I paused it t...
