Is there a solid fuse-like item that I can use in place of a fuse, to bypass it?
I don't see what hardwiring your power amp into a junction box in the wall is such a bad idea? Commercial / industrial equipment often does this. Especially the monster solid state amps that need their own dedicated 20 amp circuits. In fact, why n...
Why don't upgrade the wires and components inside our units?
Audioman58 - How did the crossover mode turn out on the Dynaudios? How are they sounding overall? Enjoying them?
The problem with streaming
I too am very new to using a music server, streaming & ripping CD's. I have (& have had) a very good turntable set up in good to very good systems for the past 40+ years. When a recording is good & the album is clean & in good cond...
"Best" 80's HiFi System
Two of the best speakers I’ve ever heard were from the 80’s: Duntech Sovereigns& Apogee Duettas. Very different & both excellent. Conrad Johnson Premier One sounded way better than the Levinson amps to me but couldn’t drive the Apogees 2 o...
Feel free to talk me off the ledge
Agree w/ 1piece! I recently bought the Volti Audio Rivals -outstanding! They sound so alive, clear, detailed dynamic without any harshness. Between them & my new Innuos Zenith streamer, I have had many late nights!!! I recommend anyone in the ...
Feel free to talk me off the ledge
So many funny responses! Hilarious! There are many good speakers out now at all price levels & designs w/ their own devotees. Nothing does realistic dynamics like good horn speakers & for myself, this is a must or music simply doesn’t soun...
Is the DAC the digital equivalent of a cartridge.
The transport is the equivalent of the table, arm & cartridge combined. They both spin a disk hopefully at an accurate speed, align a device to “ read” the disk, read it & send that  information on its way. The phono preamp & the DAC a...
Are Your Ears Good? Simple Test For Your Ears
From what I understand, even though we can’t directly “hear” much above 20khz, the “ information “  transmitted above that can substantially affect imaging & overtones  which are important parts of sound  reproduction.
Suggestions for a streamer only (I have a great DAC)
+ 2 for Innuos Zenith Mark III. Just got it recently & really like it. Simple, solid, app works great, burns CD’s fast & sounds excellent.
Turntable upgrade recommendations: SME vs AMG vs Technics vs other
I’ve owned & enjoyed a Basis 2500 w/ a Basis Vector 4 arm & a ZYX MC cartridge for 20 years. Simple, very solid w/ very well engineered & built in NH. Still works flawlessly & sounds excellent. I think the newest version is the 280...
McIntosh -- good for show, not for sound, says dealer
All McIntosh gear in built in the US w/integrity to last a long time. How many amps built in the 60’s are still out there & running well? Very few other brands foreign or domestic. While maybe not every model they’ve ever produced sounds great...
Snell Type A III vs. Klipsch Cornwall IV
I used to enjoy & enjoy Snell A’s also. I now own Volti Audio Rivals. They are excellent, full bodied, very dynamic  w/ great tone & detail. Very efficient like the Klipsch but better on every way, much higher quality drivers, cabinets, cr...
Is Old Music Killing New Music?
Perhaps a many bad things in our world can be blamed on the greed & short sightedness of my (boomer) generation. But we can also proudly take the credit for by far the best rock music ever! It’s not even close. it’s survival of the fittest!  ...
Your single most significant purchase mistake?
My first turntable in 1974- BIC 940 belt drive. What a POS! I think it was designed engineered ok, just poor quality of materials & construction. The fluid in cueing system leaked on early & would drop the needle on the record faster than ...
Decisive moments your your audio journey
Great stuff here many of which I can relate to. I've had many different revelatory moments listening to music along way. The initial one was hearing what good, tight & defined bass can sound like on stacked large Advents in too small a room th...
