Why the cost increase?
The fact free contingent is in full cry here I see. Settle down folks the economy is back on track and inflation is largely temporary. And glad someone said this already a little inflation, and corresponding wage increases, are good both for the e...

Why would you need 4 different dacs?

D’agostino preamp - unfortunate its SS?
Tubes are preferred by people who prefer tubes. Those people sometimes but don't usually buy solid state amps. Other people love solid state amps they buy solid state amps. D'Agostino makes solid state amps for customers who love solid state amps,...
CDP or DAC?
I posted that comment about CD players and ran out the door so yes if ARC has backup transports that’s good but if they don’t you're basically out of luck. And its good it has digital inputs that greatly enhances the functionality. My comment wasn...
CDP or DAC?
@ghdprentice You've pretty much hit on why its a crapshoot buying a CD player these days that transport goes and it's a boat anchor.

Only one speaker
Do you have a mono switch on your preamp? It's fairly uncommon these days but some still have them.
Best Preamp and Amp combination, interesting finding!!!
In a general sense not a surprise at all it's much harder to make a good preamp so a $1K preamp will generally be compromised. It's much easier to produce a good budget amp.
What are the current useless terms in this "audio world"
Holy Grail unless it's used in a Monty Python reference.

Here is the thing about noise floor the noise floor of a device like a streamer is likely considerably lower than the noise floor of the amp you're using. So perhaps it's a lower noise floor but likely its just a better more transparent component.
My Apologies to Miller Carbon
Here is the thing when MC sticks to audio he makes some good contributions. However his editorializing and belittling of others obscures that fact. Lets all try to act better around this place and help others.
