Trying to get back into Lps, I seem to be throwing
You have to crank the volume because you're running a MC cartridge into a MM phono input and you don't have enough gain! Get a MC phono stage, borrow one if you have to, and see how much better it sounds. Beyond that it's likely that cd's will sou...
Help troubleshooting amp
Jim,I know what you mean! Slight change though, it was $212, still a great deal, but they're still waiting for a new fuse that they had to order over the web, so I won't get the amp until next week sometime. Nonethless I'm excited, especially sinc...
Nakamichi Cassette Decks
I agree that Naks rule, but as mentioned above Teac and Tandberg, especially Tandberg, made some really sweet decks. If you're going to get a Nak get something older, the newer decks were still nice, but they didn't have that "magic" sound quality...
certin speaker makers harder to get dissounts fro
Cjlcapp,Anyone who thinks a 50-60% markup is "wrong" has obviously never spent any time in retail. Many things are marked up many times over, clothes for example. A markup of 50% only gives you a gross profit of 33% try living on that after expens...
Simple enough?
Warrenh regardless of the move you're making I have to insist that you take some pics. You have a really nice rig and we all want to take a look at it, so borrow a digital camera and get to work. As far as a power cord goes I have no idea, but I w...
Wish me luck
Good luck!
Looking for a CD-R to transfer vinly to CD
Rwear, the discs I used were good ones, Mitsuis are the best. It's too late for the bad ones. And Rosstaman, so you know, I never wrote on any of them.
Help troubleshooting amp
Well everyone, it turned out that all 4 tubes were bad and they took out resistors and caps. So Deja Vu has fixed the amp, I'll be picking it up on Friday and it only is going to cost $180.00. Woo-hoo!
Warped Records
Get the Air Tight record flattener! It's expensive, like $800 I think, but maybe you and some of your audiobuddies can split the cost.
Looking for a CD-R to transfer vinly to CD
Good luck one thing to keep in mind though, I have a bunch of cd-r's all high quality Mitsui's made on a real stand-alone cd burner not a computer, and as they get older they're starting to deteriorate. Some of mine that are about 3-4 years old th...
tube amps or amps between $1000 and $2000
Well since you have a BAT preamp how about a used VK-60? Assuming of course that you like your preamp.
Dartzeel amp lives up to hype
Sounds good Snook, but you should post your system with some pics so we can all drool. Happy listening!
Used Preamp for $2000 to $3000
I second Krell_man, I also have a Herron VTSP-1A and if you can find one under $2K go for it! It's a great sounding, lively but neutral preamp.
I'm SHOCKED literally .
It sounds like static to me. This time of year I always touch one of the metal supports of my rack before I touch any gear, to drain the charge.
Wheres my week link????
I think your issue might be your source, most universal players are jacks of all trade but masters of none. It sounds like the system you heard had a dedicated redbook cd player, you might consider auditioning one in your system and see if it make...
