To Variac or not to Variac? FWIW I always power my amp, a Deja Vu Audio PP EL34 17 watter, up with a variac and then just run it off the variac when I listen. I use a 20A variac so tons of current for my relatively low power amp and I noticed a nice drop in the noise floor w...
Is there Really a difference between a Krell 400xi intergrated amp and the newer Vandgard? @dave_b Just wondering if the 400xi, which is obviously a much older amp, had low level hum and a high noise floor perhaps it needed to be recapped? Or at least gone over by a tech? I realize you got it just for the shootout and might not care to ...
Audiophile pets and their names... We have two cats but the gf named them, so its Tigger and Trixie. And yes they jump on top of my speakers on occasion, well Tigger does, and Trixie likes to sometimes sleep on top of my power conditioner.
Dick's / Dave's picks Also if you've never torrented before best to get some help from a friend who knows what he's doing it can be pretty daunting.
Dick's / Dave's picks Jafant go to archive.org, hundreds of Charlie Miller remasters and to be clear these are all unofficial bootlegs but Charlie has a huge following and is a very good guy.
Dick's / Dave's picks Either way the shows are out there and honestly I'll take a Charlie Miller master any day of the week over official releases. Listening to his remasters of 8/29-30/69 of Family Dog at the Great Highway and holy crap they sound amazing!

Dick's / Dave's picks Guys the reason most of May 77 hasn't been released is exactly because so many of those shows are already out there as great sounding soundboards. Official releases would be redundant. I have awesome copies of both 5/8 and 5/9 if anyone needs them...
Dick's / Dave's picks @vicweast The 5/25/77 The Mosque Richmond VA was released as Dave's Pick # 1.
Dick's / Dave's picks jriggy to be honest I suck at techno stuff and don't torrent or anything myself but friends of mine do and they pretty much dropbox me stuff. I wish I could be more help but give etree a try. And when I say better than official releases a lack of ...
Dick's / Dave's picks Oh and don't forget Live Dead aka 1/26, 2/27 and 3/2 1969 Fillmore West to me the absolute best renditions of Dark Star>St Stephen>The Eleven.
Dick's / Dave's picks If you like the Dick's Picks series there are a wealth of recordings circulating out there, anything from Charlie Miller particularly, that often sound better. Pretty much the entirety of 68 is out there much of 69 also if you like late 60s. For m...
How to upgrade in pieces - or - tell me about your journey! I say go for the DAC the Sonos analog outs are average at best. Lots to choose from at a variety of pricepoints new and used. I run my Sonos into a Yamamoto YDA-1 dac and love it.
