Thiel CS3.6
It'd be fun to hear a high watt/high current ss amp on my 3.6s, but I've been using a pair of Quicksilver 90 watt monos for a while. Maybe a tad loose on the bottom end on some recordings, but overall quite nice sounding. Good luck.
How does the Cambridge Azur 840C sound compared
"Do you think a week is long enough to tell what it sounds like?"Hi Zeal, As I think I mentioned in my first post, I got the Sony used. Not sure how many total hours are on it, but it sounds quite nice as is; so much the better if it continues to ...
Rega Saturn or Sony SCD-XA5400ES ?
I discussed this very topic in an earlier thread regarding the 5400 vs. the Cambridge 840C. I actually traded my Saturn for a 5400 a couple of weeks ago. To my ears, in my room, and with my gear, the Sony has a more extended high end and does a be...
Apollo/Saturn, Raysonic, or CEC... who wins?
See my comments in the Cambridge 840C thread below for details, but I recently switched from a Saturn to a Sony 5400; I'm liking the extra detail I hear from the Sony a lot. Good luck.
How does the Cambridge Azur 840C sound compared
I've only heard the 840C in a friend's system, which is very different from mine (I have Thiel 3.6s, Quicksilver 90 watt monos, and Quicksilver Linestage). As such, I cannot really comment on how it compares to the 5400, which I have owned for abo...
Best speaker used under $1000 for piano rec.
There is a pair of Reference 3a mm De Capos listed in the classifieds for $1050. Great sounding speaker, with or without the "i" upgrade. Piano sounds wonderful on them.
Anybody own or owned a McIntosh MC2250?
Bottom end with the QS amps is a bit loose and undefined. Top end is slightly rolled off, which would be a good thing for some Thiel owners, but not great for someone (me) who's been a drummer for forty years. Levinson, Krell, and Rowland are goin...
Digital Drum Kits
It may have been a stock digital drum set "brain" (e.g., d-drum, roland, etc.), but it's more likely that the pads were triggering hi-rez samples stored in a computer or sampler.
Best way to clean Piano Gloss
Electric guitar polish and a good lint free polishing cloth. Check your local Guitar Center or Sam Ash store.
Reasonably Priced PreAmp without Phono ?
You're getting lots of good suggestions here and I suspect all would work fine. One last word on the Quicksilver gear. I'm not sure I'd let reliability discourage your purchase in this case. I've owned two pairs of amps, a linestage and a phono pr...
Reasonably Priced PreAmp without Phono ?
The Quicksilver is tubed, with a couple of 12AX7s (one per channel). Here's a link to more info: http://www.quicksilveraudio.com/products/line.html-Jon
Reasonably Priced PreAmp without Phono ?
Used Quicksilver Linestage at around $500-$550; hard to beat in that price range.
Improve your hearing?
Just a little humor, Pedrillo. No offense intended.
Improve your hearing?
"A good enima works wonders for improved hearing."Agreed, but researchers don't really understand whether it's the enema itself or pulling your head out of your butt prior to the enema that improves the hearing.
Why do no audio enthusiasts use McIntosh?
A buddy of mine runs a pair of gigantic Bozak Concert Grands with four MC-30s and a couple of different Mac preamps, as well as a Mac CD changer (not sure of the model numbers). He also owns a bunch of other Mac stuff, including two MC-275s and wh...
