How many different materials did Thiel make cabinets out of over the years?  I know most are MDF but my 3.7s are curved plywood(I'm pretty sure, some kind of layered, curved wood product, very rigid.) and aluminum front.  The Powerpoints were alum...
Why does a dent to a tweeter not affect sound quality?
It has an affect but it's not always noticeable.  I remember a speaker that had the grills on that I could clearly tell had missing highs.  I took off the grill and found the tweeter was pushed completely in.  I pulled it out and it sounded normal...

I don't have a lot of experience with many different Thiels but my favorites are probably my 2 2s.  My 3.7s are technically better but they're kind of a pain.  I'm currently between amps and now am trying to find reasonably priced, high powered, a...
An ideal (minimal) 2.1 setup
The size of the woofer matters a lot.  I've never found little bookshelf speakers satisfying for rock.  Little speakers + subs can have the same frequency response as large floorstanders, and can be comparable on some types of music, but nothing l...
Why has focal raised their prices so much on Sopra line
We're more like soviet russia now, it's not what you want, it's what you can get.  I recently bought a small boat to take the kids on and went looking for an outboard.  I'm in Northeastern IL and I couldn't find a 20hp outboard.  I found a single ...
Low-sensitivity speakers — What's special about them?
Judging by this thread I'd say low sensitivity speakers have the advantage of not having an hysterical cult following that refuses to accept that what is most important to them isn't necessarily what is most important to everyone.
ATC and Loki
I'm trying to make an abstract argument rather than personalize this and I don't think my personal experience is all that relevant.  I've got a few systems.  I've got ATC 110s in a family room system, Thiel 3.7s in what I'd call a den I guess, and...

How do you properly solve the problem of speakers not sounding right because they're not being played at accurate volume?
ATC and Loki
I don't mean they lack accurate bass, just that they sound like they do at low listening levels.  It only makes sense for accurate reproduction at inaccurate levels to sound inaccurate.  It is inaccurate.  You can make it sound more accurate by co...
ATC and Loki
The downside to low level listening to accurate speakers is a lack of bass.  It only sounds right if you're listening at levels closer to realistic for a real performance.

I have a pair of 2 2s, they were the first Thiels I owned.  I got them for a living room system about 10 years ago.  I consider them the best audio bargain of my life.  They aren't for AC/DC fans but at moderate volumes they're just so enjoyable. ...

Do any of you kids , want your system ???
My kids are in elementary school and don't have any interest in any media other than video games (mostly minecraft).  I have to drag them away.  Movies, tv, music, nothing.  For a while they mixed youtube shows in and occasional movies and scripte...

The 3.7s on ebay are serial numbers 97 and 98 so it's an opportunity to get a pair with an original Lexington crossover.
